- JoeTwo times received a call fro (678) 221-4916, both time the automated message said it was "Linda" from "United Healthcare Coordination of Benefits". The message said to call back at (877) 828-5743 and also provided an 8 digit PIN.
Being that I have recently become covered by UHC, I wondered. Though my scam suspicion was still very high, I called back the number and it immediately said the number was no longer in service and it hung up. This was not the standard phone company message, this was the exact same computer voice, "Linda", that left the original message. Thank goodness I called from my office phone! Read on to see why.
Some here say this is a legitimate call. if so, shame on UHC considering in the past month, health insurance companies with their very lax security compliance standards have given up over 88 million medical records to hackers. This is what we *know* about. Certainly there are many, many more **we** *don't* know about, and many, many more *they* don't know about.
So, as with other of those who advised here, never assume the caller is who they claim they are, and call back the number on your card rather than any number they give you. "They" could be anyone.
This could still be a scam, and I believe it is, regardless of those who say it is not. Keep in mind, this automated system could be just confirming your number is live and attached to you! Then bad news comes later when you find out they used the information they stole (any by nature of your call back to their computer that logged your phone number), they have now confirmed the information in the record they stole is valid and curent!!!- Caller: Allegedly United Health Care

- AnonymousReceived an automated voice mail claiming to be from United HealthCare, giving me an eight-digit "security" number, and asking me to call back at 877-828-5743 so they can verify some information. I called the 877 number and it asked if I was <my 1st name and last name> to which I said yes and then it asked me if I have insurance with another company at which point I hung up and called the customer service # on the back of my United HealthCare card. UHC's customer service rep looked up my file and said the call did not come from them - there were no notes about any automated or manual calls made to me.
- Rev. Christopher replies to andreaNot only not a good idea, it violates HIPAA.
- R BallReceived daily auto calls under United Healthcare name for over a week, I will not respond to auto calls and suspect this to be a phishing scam.

- Chris replies to InnaWas told it was for JP HUD . Not giving them any info
- Concerned replies to Smarter than a scammerLikely a scam!
- JoelI called United Healthcare directly about the suspicious number, and they looked into and found that the number goes to their benefits department. Turns out they didn't need any info from me, but it was good to hear that it wasn't a spam call.

- ChrisI got this call yesterday... Sounded fishy so I checked here and other places. The responses seem to be 50/50 for "legit" or "scam". I decided to give them a try. A recorded message asked me to verify my name, then said that it had "a few simple questions" regarding any additional insurance I might have. The first question was, "Do you have any other insurance policies?". My answer was, "no". The call then concluded with no further questions.
This call seems legit. But, I always use caution... If one of these type calls starts asking for more detailed info, I'd hang up and call my insurer directly to see what they want.- Caller: United Healthcare
- janThis number called my ex-husband and claimed to be from united healthcare's coordination of benefits. They should never have had his number if this was real and they should have had an actual clue what my last name was which they got way wrong.

- PeterBI thought maybe it was a scam, but I called anyway. All the automated system asked me was if I had any other health insurance. Never asked me for any personal info, so I doubt this is a scam.

- Helen replies to RodgerAll it did was ask whether I had any other insurance and then hung up. I don't know how it could be a phishing scam without asking for more valuable information.
- ROBERT M BROWNCalled representing United Health Care and gave me a pin # to help expedite my claims. i did not return the call
- Caller: Said it was United Health Care
- DeeI can't say 100% that this number is legit, but I'm guess it is. I only say this because they left numerous messages saying they were with UHC gave the 877-828-5743 number and a 8 digit code. I googled the number and found several posts so decided to log into my UHC acct and found a message from them. They wanted to update some information so I did it online. I hope they stop calling now.

- MLI have United Healthcare and all it was is a service verifying if you have any other insurance outside of the one you more than likely have. Not a scam, just verification.

- will replies to RodgerI got the same message I spoke to my HR dept and its fake DO NOT ANSWER
- TimThis is a bad business practice in that it asks you to say the word yes or no to confirm your identity. Other scams are using your recorded yes as proof that you authorized a purchase or subscription or something else to shake you down for money. It is never a good idea to say yes on a robot call that may be recorded. If they offered a number option that would be an improvement.

- ZEDSCAM!! Just called UHC # on my card, they said they were unfamiliar with the number and dont have anything outstanding on our account. People who say it's really UHC are likely working for the phishing company/scammers.
