Please people stop calling these junk debt buyer companies.  Stop listening to them.  If you have a legit debt and you are contacted by a reputable collection company and want to pay then pay BUT if you are getting anonymous calls, threatening law suits and serving papers do not call them period.  If they want to get money from you then let them file a lawsuit in your city/county courthouse.  You can usually google your court records and find out if a suite has been called, then a truly authorized person will and can serve you papers.  Then you sumbit your response and deny it, keep up with the court documents and stay informed, don't miss filing the papers, then you file papers to request information from them and make them prove they own the debt and how much they paid for it.  They will then usually drop the proceedings because they can't prove it.  They try to scare you so you will call them and pay and alot of people do.  They can serve you papers but if they aren't from your court then they don't mean anything.

Received a call from a process server for Nationwide and it caught me off guard as I was busy with a dying relative. I got flustered and called the number given buy the process server and reached a company The "Case Manager" for my debt stated he was unable to provide me with any receipt for my payments or documentation on our agreement until paid in full. This sent a red flag, which I admit should have been raised sooner, straight in the air. I was unable to get an address or anything from them showing who they were. I contacted the original lender and found the debt had been settled by my former spouse which I confirmed e had receipts for. The original lenders fraud department but me on a three-way call with Nationwide and kept there presence quiet until Nationwide expressed all its threats again with the Fraud department representative listening. The I made the announcement that the original lender was listening via three-way. Nationwide had the gutts to tell the fraud representative that since she would not give her ID number she could be anyone and why should he believe her. Now if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. The fruad department representative told the Nationwide guy, "I suggest you just hit delete, delete, delete on your little keyboard and forget our comany name and our borrowers name then take your scam somewhere else little man." Then he hung up on us. The fraud representative told me to ignore their calls and any future contact as they were definately a scam company. Thanks goodness I followed up and was able at the advise of the fraud department stopp my debit card before any transactions could take place. I have a confirmed email from the lender showing debt paid and the advise concerning the situation given by their department.

    PS BS
They aren't process servers. They are people who sit behind a desk in various locations. They pretend to be process servers, then you talk to the person next to them (who is in the "firm") and then their buddy is the case manager.

What is going to happen if you don't pay the debt? Abso [***] lutely nothing!

No worries. These people make bank off your fear!

    Just stupid
I just received a call stating that I owed a pay day loan place.  LOL  I have never taken out a pay day loan.  They told me that I would be charged with a bad check charge and that I would be going to court if I didn't give them $700 today.  Then after telling them I wanted paperwork to show me the validity of the charge, they told me that I would be served papers.  I HAVE LIVED AT THE SAME PLACE FOR 10 YEARS people!!!  The debt was from 2008!  Seriously!  Come on!  Shouldn't I have been notified of this before???   They got mad at me because I wanted something with proof!  They were mad about that....I cannot believe it.  Something isn't right here.

Don't answer caller ID numbers you don't know, get an answering machine and screen your calls.  If you do pick up, hang up immediately. It's a scam to steal your money.

I asked if I could make a payment arrangement but they would not give me the name of the company and how much I owe them. They are harrasing me at work and it is agaiisnt the law to do that.

I got a call from phone number 877-919-3460 claiming to be Nation wide collection. I want to make sure that this is a legit company before I get scammed again. I called  the company that I received the loan from and ask them and they told me that the collection company that is currently handling my case is called United Debt holdings. I tired to call them but was on hold for a while then forwarded to leave a voicemail. When the guy from Nationwide called me this morning it appeared on my phone as a restricted number and left a voicemail saying that if he doesn't hear back from me within 3 hours then he will have them release my case and they will serve me with papers and at the end he wished me good luck. I'm  nervous that this may be legit and they will come and serve with papers. can someone please advise me and what I should do?

I cant believe that these morons are so stupid.  They call my home saying the kid is a locator for some papers that need to be served to me.  This was my own fault for being so dumb in first place.  I actually told that "kid" on the phone to go and send the locator, and I would make sure my local police department was onsite when they came.  I will tell them that he told me if he came to my door and I didnt accept the paperwork, bad things would happen.  I dont think they are actually stupid enough to come out here.  Do these people have no pride??  Who would ever take a job that you actually threaten people on the phone to pay you money you dont owe.  I wouldnt and dont care how much it paid. they can move around and change phone numbers all they want and let them have that type of life.  These people are just kids working for these out of country loans places and they are the ones that get in trouble.  However, if you want to treat a fellow American like that, than you are no better than the AL QUIDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    BOSTON STRONG

I was called 5 times in a row from a blocked number with a voicemail from a woman stating that I will be served and this is my warning to collect on a debt if I did not call back to make arrangements on a payday loan that I had defaulted on a couple months earlier. I called back, the number 8667527953. I was transferred to "Justin" who said he works for the "firm" and had info of where I worked, the amount of the loan, which had now doubles and said that I will be served with court papers tomorrow by a locator if I did not give my bank card and arrange payments. He said the compacts name was nationwide mediation. When I called later the name of the company on the voicemail said ADR. I asked for the address of company and the guy only gave me a zipcode that was 4 digits long and then a building number. I said I needed something in writing and a lawyer would be contacting.
