- MELISSA replies to aarghMake sure you file a complaint with the states Attorney General consumer protection department. Also if anyone is getting a call that this is a time sensitive matter, that's against the law. It is against the law to harrass and make stipulations on a bill. Basicly they are saying that if you don't call us back we are going to do something to you.
As far as calling someone's number who doesn't live at that address and they keep calling, it's harrassment. In the FTCA it states you can ask the collector to stop calling and you can do this in 2 ways, telephone, and writing.
If you receive calls from collectors looking for someone who lived in the house or apartment before you, had the phone number you have now, or the person's name is the same or similar to yours, here are some things you can do:
1. Do not take their harassment! Tape the calls and tell the caller that you are doing so for evidence of their illegal behavior and that you intend to file a complaint with your state attorney general and the FTC. Then, contact your State Attorney General's consumer protection division, use this attorney-general link to locate yours and file a formal complaint. While you're on the phone or the web site, ask if they can offer any assistance such as calling or sending the collector a written warning to stop harassing you. Also ask for a reference to any state laws that offer protection from harassment. Then, file a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well using their on-line complaint form
2. If they ask for your social security number DO NOT provide it. Not even part of it! Instead, have them tell you what number they are looking for and then you can verify whether it is or is not your number. If it is your number, and you believe there is a mistaken identity start thinking IDENTITY FRAUD and take action to protect your credit reports. Tell the collector you believe this might be fraud or ID theft Identity theft; how to prevent it and protect yourself! If the number is your SS number and the debt might be yours, then act in good faith and tell the collector so. Remember you still have the right to dispute the debt if, after discussing it, you believe it to be invalid.

- JenniferGot a phone call from this number. They refused to say what this was in regards to until I verified my address. I explained I have no affiliation with a CCA Company so they must be calling about someone else. He said he could not tell me anything until I verified information so he would know it was actual ME. So..he was WILLING to repeat my address (asking if this is where I receive my mail) which is providing personal information, but not willing to verify what this is in regards to. I told him before he goes any further, I am informing him that I have filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy and I would be happy to give him my attorney's name and number. He STILL tried to get information from me and said he had my social in a way that seemed threatening. I said "GOOD FOR YOU" and told him he may be a damn idiot but I wasn't and to give me HIS number and I would have my attorney call him!! He said he would get his supervisor, so I hung up and called my attorney. She said to ask next time for the last 4 of my social. I did find out this is AT&T and I ALSO got a call from a foreign speaking person who was using a flip chart for our conversation. When you start asking them questions and disrupting that sequence of discussion, it messes with their reality.

- Janet BradyGot a call from the above-mentioned number asking me to call them about my son-in-law. I called them back and because of "privacy matters" could not give me any information. I told them I would call my son-in-law and give him the message. I did just that. They said they would remove my number from the data base. I do not want to get anymore calls concerning anyone. He does not live here and I am not responsible for anything he does.
- Caller: could not understand what they said.
- E MI keep recieving calls from this number, I don't know if it is the same number that has been calling since the early 1990's. It seems that someone has used my husbands' name for credit cards. My husband NEVER, NEVER HAD A CREDIT card, it seems as if they just go to the phonebook and select a person;s name and try to collect thousands of dollars, that are Not ours. We have tried to tell these people that and they won't hear it. We talked to a lawyer about it but all they could say was if they went to another place and got credit you would have to file another case, I AM TIRED OF THESE CALLS. The man they are calling about was sick for many years, in a wheel chair and had cancer and took treatments and now he has been dead since august 2005. These people keep letting someone GET CREDIT AND THAT IS THEIR PROBLEM, not mine. If you can stop this I would appreciate it.
When they will give me the date of birth and social none matches, Thanks - BWThis number Just called my parents house and were very rude. Said they were someone else, foreign is accent. Not quite sure who it is at this point.
