- Aimee Steiding| 1 replyI received a voice mail message for my stepfather stating that Deacon Myers from an "ADR Firm" needed to verify his address and work address to serve a service of process in a claim. He stated that He needed to call this number 1-877-871-3929 and referenced a file number to use when calling. I've read on here a scam almost identical to this only using a different phone number.
- alleyb replies to Aimee SteidingMy cousin just called me, except the name was Conrad Marshall. Anything ever happen?
- a friend| 7 repliesYes, I received a call from this number. They claim that they are "World Wide"--a pre-litigation mediation firm. Basically, it seems like the "good cop" of debt collection that tries to work with you after you been called at work by a "locator" (the scary "bad cop") who threatens to serve you with papers of charges against you and threaten a hefty increase on top of any amount owed that will be garnished from your wages if you do not pay it, or a portion of it, now today... before the locator finds you and serves you. They want a bank card number to secure a promise to pay. I did not do this and now they seem to be more flexible about payment, still trying to determine my rights here. In this case, it was surrounding an alleged Pay Day Loan Debt. Trying to figure this out, so thought I'd put this out there for anyone else

- A friend too| 1 replyPlease check out this FBI Press Release. I believe this number is connected with this type of fraudulent collection.
The FBI sent out a Press Release on this scam just last week:
Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.
If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:
Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

- ChrisI have received a call like this around a month and a half ago. They were less than cooperative when it came to giving my their address. I was told by the Michigan Attorney General's office that I should make a complaint, and if they are trying to collect a debt that they have to give you a mailing address for any correspondence. What info I did get from them was that they are a Mediation Firm out Of Southern California. I did however find two address in SoCal 801 South Garfield Avenue, Alhambra, CA 91801, and 210 S Kenwood St Glendale, CA 91205

- Leslie| 2 repliesIs anyone aware of or have any knowledge of a company that goes by the name of "World Wide Mediation" with a call back phone number of 877-450-6121? Like many of the above I received a call this morning from the above noted phone number about my son. They stated that my son owed Money due to cashing a check at a payday loan company in 2009 and did not pay it back. The caller, a gentleman by the name of Conrad Marshall, left a message stating that it was important that he speak with my son concerning charges and claims for service and process with a claim number to reference. When I called back the above number I spoke with a woman who stated that her name was Marcie. She basically told me the same thing that Conrad Marshall did. She would not give me any details without the last four (4) digits of my son's social. When I gave her those numbers she stated, "that's right, your son's name is blah blah". And she did give me his correct name then proceeded to give me details on their claim. Everything she told me was correct including names of friends & family that he used as references. She then stated she needed my son to call ASAP to dicuss payment arrangements before they were to serve him papers. They claim he has comitted fraud and breach of contract. Has anyone else had any dealings with the above named individuals at the above mentioned phone number? What I need to know " Is this a SCAM?

- L.B."World Wide Mediation" is most definitely a SCAM! I received several calls from 866-575-1125 regarding a balance from a pay day loan I got in 2008. They had all the correct information and ALMOST got me to do a settlement, because I was so tired of the harrassing phone calls and scared of them coming to my job, a job I just started. I asked them to fax or e-mail me some type of agreement letter with their company logo and address. They would not do so and got extremely upset. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor and the man I was speaking to (Gregg) told me he would not. I hung up and called back. Pressed "0" hoping I would get someone else, but Gregg picked up saying he was the manager and there was no one else I could talk to. That's when I knew something wasn't right. I "googled" World Wide Mediation and nothing came up. I also searched the number they called me from and SCAM reports came up. Please be very careful.

- sabrina gI received a call from a "locator" who said he was verifying my address for legal documents to be sent to me, by the way he never asked for my address at any point. He told me to contact "worldwide" group since I didn't know what he was talking about. I contacted the group at 1-877-848-6399 I was told like everyone else that I owed a payday loan from money and more and I needed to pay them immediately or I would end up in court (in the city and state of their choosing) I would not only b responsible for my debt, but travel fees for the company as well. This was weird to me since I was contacted the EXACT same way by another "locator" just 2 months before and she redirected me to nationwide mediation group (again without asking for my current address in case I decided to ignore them) so I began asking simple questions like how did I obtain said loan? May I have a copy of my "signed" contract? What steps do I take once I get a hold of my bank statement stating loan did not incur? And he was a humbling idiot... He had all the answers about me though, my name, account holder name, my social and even my license #. Seems fishy, the previous company, nationwide threatened me with jail time and large fines and here I am 2 months later without any contact with them, I have not been served and once I started ignoring their calls it stopped all together..DON'T PAY!!!!

- Jim replies to a friend| 1 replyJust had this same scenerio happen to me today. Said they were trying to collect a debt from a past Pay Day Loan for Check Advance, an online payday loan company. I was left a message from Vickie Long from them in a very stern voice, and then I followed up with a return call to them to speak with a Dan Smith. Was informed that they were a mediation firm simply trying to help facilitate the collection of this debt. I will be served paperwork from a locator that will have all the orginal information of the loan and I can dispute the claim with Check Advance. Tried to get the address of World Wide and Check Advance from Dan by the advice of a lawyer friend of mine and they refused and started to get irritated with me that I was calling them back in reference to getting more info on this matter.
- a scam for sureI recieved a call from these people today. First they called my step father. How they had his phone number I have no idea. During this time I noticed I recieved several missed calls from an "unknown" number. It was world wide mediation group I know because they left my step father with a number he passed along to me. I also received a voicemail from the unknown number in which a man by the name of "David Williams" left a message explaining that I have charges pending against me but did not say specifically what the charges were. In addition he went on to state that he needed my address for processing and serving me papers. And in a very intimidating tone said you have been notified. Also this was my one chance. So I called them to see what they wanted and when I asked what their company was and where they were located so I knew who to write a letter too they were upset and some young black woman I spoke with told me that I have charges against me and asked if I had recieved papers demanding my appearance in court once I asked her what for she just kept saying that I had to appear in court I knew she was full of [***] so I cursed her out for a moment and hung up they haven't called since. Hope this helped lol

- Upset in TexasFirst a lady named Karen Wheeler called me to say she was notifying me of criminal charges pending against me for an online payday loan from 2009, and I was about to be served papers to appear in court on 12/23/11. Then she got upset and was very rude when I kep asking her who she was as I don't normally answer unknown, blocked, 800 numbers, or any other numbers I don't recognize on my phone. What else was weird is that she called me on my prepaid cell (which I guess companies sell numbers regardless if it is home, contract, or whatever). She stated that I needed to call this firm about the matter which happens to be Worldwide, who claims they are a mediation firm. I called and initially spoke to a woman who called out the name of the loan company online 9which is Loanpoint USA), then she transferred me to a man named Greg who supposedly was representing this 3rd party locater/lawyer which I could not get any information on. Whenever I tried to call Karen Wheeler back, the phone automatically disconnects on its own which is weird, and I don't have any contact information for Worldwide either as they will not give any out. I initially paid them $72 on a prepaid card to stop the release orders to appear in court as I wasn't thinking and was afraid as I have other legal issues I am fighting right now, but I messed up because I never got anything in the mail or calls prior to 12/23/11 abotu this matter. I did not give them any updated accurate info though. Please beware of these people.

- JB| 5 repliesI was contacted today (as was my boss - who I brought up to date before the call came in so she would know what was going on - she laughed). They said there were charges against me and that they (World Wide) were a mediation firm. I told them to go ahead and serve me because I would counter sue (which he said I didn't have the right to, read the Fair Debt Collection Act - I have every legal right to counter sue when being harrassed or threatened when they have no intention of following through. I received similar calls on this same pay day loan I supposedly took out and I sent them a letter (certified return receipt) requesting validation of the debt, and that company said "this file is closed" and has been forwarded (sold is what they meant) to another company. I have since sent them the same certified letter and no one can give me the information requested. I have all this documented so if I do end up in court, the judge will rule in my favor and they will have to wipe my record clean and pay me for damages! I have looked at my credit report and my old account statements and I did not recieve any money from the company they claim I took a loan out for. Watch out for these guys! They switch their number all the time. I am keeping a close record of when they call and how often (for harrassment) so if I end up in court (which isn't likely since no one can show me the proof of the alleged loan) I am covered. Hope this helps someone else with these people.

- LA| 1 replyI have been getting similar calls from a mediation firm that answers their phones saying "Huntington". Their phone number is # 877- 728-4657 and they have called my family & workplace too. They say that1 have 1 chance to contact the mediation firm at that number about some claims and charges against me immediatly or they will have to serve me at my home or workplace. I've talked to them several times and triexd to work something out, but all they want is my card/checking account number. They refuse to send any written notice because they are not allowed to. They said it is a from a ThinkCash online payday loan from April 2010 & they site an old address that I didnt even have during that time. I told them that without documentation I could not work with them & Id rather see them in court.

- JB| 1 replyI just verified with my counties sheriff department about this "Brian Anderson" who supposedly has papers for me he needs to serve, the officers I spoke to said that there was no such person in their department and that there papers in their system to be served for me. I beg all of you to contact your local office (county court or sheriffs dept, whichever serves your community) and verify as well. The debt they are trying to collect may be valid, or may not be, but they are using illegal tactics to collect it. Keep good records of when they called and save all the threatening and harrassing calls, so if you do end up in court, you can sue their A**. I am going to sue them anyways for illegal practice and violating the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. Oh look, my phone just rang again! Guess who! Don't fall for this...verify the facts and know your rights. If I owe the debt...prove it! Otherwise forget it!
