I just received a phone call from this number that there was a fraud found on my IRS return and that I should call to discuss an important matter

This caller sounded like a robot and told me he was from the IRS and it was regarding my tax return.  I filed and got a refund IN MARCH.   If there was an issue, my preparer would have called me and I wouldn't get a refund.

Got a call from this number twice within 4hrs of one another claiming fraud on tax return and to call immediately

I received the exact same message twice in the last 2 days!

Received a call saying from IRS and I need to call back at once. Robotic voice.
Isn't it illegal to represnt yourself as IRS when you are not?

I received a voicemail from 888-231-7304 stating that I was trying to defraud the federal government, that I had withheld information on my tax return and to call them back.  When I called the number on a few different occasions I get dead silence and/or it goes to a busy signal.  Definitely not legit.

Told me they are from the irs - recorded message

Received call that you could obviously tell was a computer generated voice.  I hung up once they said they were calling from the IRS about fraud.  The number called back and I let it go to voicemail.  They left a message again computer generated voice stating that they were calling from the IRS about fraud from tax return.

Got called and told them the it's never calls they cent certified letters thru post office

Don't take serious it's a total scam the irs has contacted me in the past thru old fashioned mail on several matters not just once. But they never called thru the phone.

I also received 3 phone calls today by the same auto record bull! Said im hiding unclaimed money from IRS. I get my taxes done professionally and pay /file everything by january..so F- that! Dont pick up!! Its a scam!!

Just received one same number too. Automated, "officer and you have hidden something and it's fraud misconduct from the Federal Government"  I wanted to call back tell them yes! I did and it's on my couch, 10 cents!!!!

Besides the 888 number, these scammers also a Checotah Oklahoma cell number 918-843-0564. 1. No IRS office in small rural Checotah Oklahoma. 2. IRS will NEVER initially contact by phone, always through correspondence. 3. If you have a significant discussion with an agent, the agent will confirm their understanding in writing to you. 4. The IRS has NO reason to ask for personal information, except to assist you in establishing that you are whom you say. (example: They may list 5 of your previous addresses and ask you which one is incorrect. They will demonstrate that they already have your personal information, which you would confirm.)  5. They tend to be unfailingly polite. I could go on, but my observations are based on personal experience. This is not your parent's IRS. These are highly trained agents with an amazing amount of authority, who are Civil Servants and not bureaucrats. They were a breath of fresh air while I was dealing with my wife who had fallen broke her neck (C1), bounced and broke her neck a second time (C2). IRS gave me as much time as I needed, even questioning whether I needed more time. They stopped the clock for us, so additional interest or penalties would not increase. SO, excuse the diatribe, these calls are SCAMS. Don't call them back. NEVER. EVER.

Not a debt collector, UNKNOWN. Website needs more choices including scammer.

Something about unpaid taxes being hidden from the federal government.

This is a scam. I called back this number and talked to several people. When I told them that everybody knows that this is a fraud they stared swearing and cursing. I am going to call them every day with "good morning IRS morons, how you are doing today!?"
