"they would return the $299.00" is sort of true but mostly false. What they WON'T tell you is your money will be *REBATED* if they don't find anything. There is a rebate form on their website that you have to find, fill out and mail to the rebate address within a 45-day window to get your money back. Since people aren't told the real story of the rebate (not a refund, not "return the $299.00"), they won't know about the form and will unknowingly run the rebate 45-day clock out and lose their chance to get their money back. Is this insidious or what?   :))

I'm in Texas DFW area.  Got one today.  Obvious scam to me, but scary that spouse thought it might be worth checking on.  I did; not by calling but by checking on your posts.  Thank you to all!

I got the same letter--thanks for your posts. The BBB gave the company a rating of "F".  The company is in a "virtual" office building.

I believe it is a result of a new National Mortgage Settlement with CitiMortgage, Bank of America, JPMorgan/Chase, Wells Fargo, and Ally Financial effective February 9, 2012.  I found the information on www.citimortgage.com under National Mortgage Settlement.  There is a Frequently Asked Questions link on the site. It encourages you to contact your servicers as soon as possible and will be in force for three-and-a half years. And, you do not need to be late on your mortgage to qualify.

    Best wishes to you all.

    You did a great job.
I called the number and  for a small amount of $299,00 they  will search our mortgage to see if we were overcharged   But if we do not find anything we will refund your money.  I am thinking they will pay us $1.00 and we paid them $298.00.  It has to be a money making scam,

    Thanks,

The letter is another example of the low life [***] who prey on victims that are don't realize the offer is too good to be true. Then persons who run this can take this letter and stick where the sun doesn't shine. These scum suckers should be dumped in an island with nothing to live on. They can feed off each other until the last bung-hole becomes vulture feed.
