It IS Xcel Energy.  They called me and left a message to call back at a different number (which is their credit dept) by 9 pm.  I called the 800 number listed on my bill after 9 pm, and reached their regular customer service dept.   My electric bill was 2 months overdue (I knew that) and the third bill had just come out, sending the balance over $100 (mine was $140) and they wanted me to either make a payment or set up a payment arrangement.  She was very nice, and said that they only call when the past due balance is over $100, and can only make arrangements through regular customer service if the past due amount is under $200, otherwise you have to call the other number (credit dept.) to make arrangements.

At this day and age of caller id spoofing, it is always best to be cautious of such calls.

claimed to excel energy. had last 4 digits of ssn. wanted route number . knew I had screwed up my billing. they going through my recycle garbage? scary stuff - I aint got no money and they are calling

Don't really care if it's supposed to be Xcel, the pope, whoever!  They shouldn't be calling all hours, any day.  If everybody had money that we 'owe', they'd not be harrassing, anyhow.  Would they?!   They might have better luck to stomp on a stone and expect money to gush out!

This number calls all hours, every day or two.  No messages left.

Scam.  Caller left message. This is not XCEL energy.  Neighbor on the community web page got a similar call today.They claimed they were going to shut off his power in 45 minutes if he didn't make payment arrangements for his past due bill then asked for proof of payment if it was from a checking account.  Wish I could shoot a poison arrow through the phone at these scum buckets!

With all the scams nowadays, never give or even verify your personal info over the phone. If they ask for any verification other than your first name, just hang up!  If they don't leave a message good.  If they called and left a message about late payment or whatever, good, that's all you need to know. All you have to do is just contact your local excel directly if you are carious about late payments or whatever it has to do with excel.  There is no need at all to call back a strange number and put yourself in being questioned or to verify personal information.

When I get these kind of phone number, I like to record my conversation with them and talk about all kinds of things in life ignoring their questions. At least of them take the time to listen before hanging up on me :)

It's a scam.

Just got a message at work purportedly from Xcel to call this number by 9 p.m.

Never heard of the person named in the message.  This number has been assigned to me for > 7 years.

My Xcel bill is on auto pay, last billed 10 days ago, no past due balance.

I always Google strange numbers before I call them back, and this one I won't be calling back.

Bunch of people here say this is XCEL, and I owe the bums money.. so whatever.. I answered it and got some indian guy telling me my computer was hacked and they wanted my passwords and such... So XCEL "autodialer" might have been hacked.. So instead of being a [***] to other people, oh some of you jerk commenters.. MAYBE you should THINK>>>> AS you say some of these others are not!!

These are allegedly debt collection calls from Xcel Energy.  We have a client that was called multiple times by a pre-recorded voice message to her cell phone by xcel after she demanded the calls stop in writing.  Xcel still calls despite the request.  The number calling is from 888-335-7976.  The voice message directs her to call back 888-335-7976, which is also Xcel.  We are investigating our client’s claims to determine the accuracy of her allegations.  If others have had the same experience, we would like to hear from you about your experience.  Please call Chris at 612-767-7790 x 2.

Yes, it is Xcel Energy. I ought to know, I am on the phone with their credit department right now, and I confirmed it was their credit department by calling their regular customer service number listed on my bill and asking them to give me the number for their credit department to confirm it really was them calling. They actually called me to confirm to me that my autopayment went through with no problem because I have had a problem with autopay in the past. Those of you who swear it is a scam, you're wrong, and you should pay your bill.

Automated message says I should call Xcel Energy by 9pm.  My account is not overdue.  It's a scam to get people's credit card numbers.
