Well, if it's not Xcel energy, how did they know the amount of my bill? It absolutely IS Xcel Energy.

Pay your bills, you won't get the calls. It's really pretty simple.

I assume this number was Xcel as they did leave me a message and had my correct name. I was past due a small amount so I immediately paid it. The VM message asked me to call back before 9:00 p.m. tonight.  I have not called the number back though.

Don't worry. Just a shill for the scam. Turn on the lights & they scurry back under the fridge. I'll ask one of the regular posters if they still have some 'Shill-B-Gone' left.

Was a call from Xcel Energy notifying me my bill was past due.  I checked my account and sure enough I had forgotten and I was 3 days past due.

No idea how or why people are saying this is a scam number.

Yep, it's Xcel Energy.  Our bill was due yesterday and I had scheduled the payment for yesterday. I had a message to call back by 9 pm tonight, so I did. The rep said they hadn't updated our acct with our payment yet even though it posted online, yesterday. Our balance was zero.  And it had cleared our bank, yesterday, too,  so I find it hard to believe they had no record. They need to stop bothering people who pay their bills on time. Geesh. Greedy much?

It is a payment number for xcel.

I paid, then I got nervous... googled it... saw all this nonsense... called xcell with the number on their website..... They confirmed exactly what the other number told me, my amount due and that they had called me and left that message earlier today.

Thanks for the moment of panic everyone!

This is a confirmed xcell account payment number.

Xcel (formerly Public Service of Colorado aka PSCo, now multistate as Xcel) is my electric utility company. After receiving a call from this number & a VM telling me Excel needed to contact me & that I Ineeded to call back by
9PM tonight, I called Xcel at their regular number. I was told that Xcel did need to speak with me due to an overdue payment, & that the 888-335-7976 number was probably from their billing dept.
So I paid my bill & expect not to receive any more calls from this number. If they do call back I'll update this entry, but for now believe this was a valid Excel Energy call.
So if you receive a call from this number check your electric bill to see if Excel is or owns your electric company (and make sure your payments are up to date!).

This is a valid number from Xcel Energy. I set up my account to receive phone calls and emails as a reminder to pay my bill on time. I received a voicemail from Excel today to remind me that my bill's due date is coming up. The recording mentioned my name and account number, so it's a valid phone call. It was just a reminder voicemail to pay my bill next week.

It is Xcel.  Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), if you don't want these calls to your cell phone, even if you originally gave xcel permission to call it, you can revoke that consent.  Send xcel a letter to never call your phone again and keep a copy for your records (fax or certified mail).  We have a client that has done this.  Xcel ignored that request and continued to call any way.  We know this is not an isolated incidence and have been looking to talk to others that have gone through the same experience.  If you told xcel to stop calling (preferably with a writing of some sort to prove you did), we want to talk to you.  It would help our client to show others were treated the same way.  We can be reached at 612-767-7790.

Definitely a scam!   Whomever called me pre-fixed the numbers 8883357976 to my 10 digit cell phone number.   On my cell phone caller ID was listed my name (from the cell phone company) plus 8883357976 plus my telephone number.    Any time my name shows for the originator of a call I consider it a  SCAM and I do not answer.  The caller can go to heck!
