It doesn't sound like they are trying to collect anything from what the other posters are stating.  It sounds like they simply want to know if you need help paying your bill because of Covid.

This is not Xcel Energy!! This is a scam call trying to get your banking info! Claims that you are past due and need to make a payment today or your gas and lights will be turned off. When I called the number back it was a car dealer, so they claimed! Here is Xcel Energy's phone # 1-800-895-4999

Just like all these other comments, from coming up on 20 years ago, Fake Xcel is calling for Fake Name an want me to call their Fake Number to tell them I am not Fake Name so they can harass me until the cows come home. Curious why this number hasn't been shut down yet, as mentioned before, this is almost 20 years in the making. 2007 to 2023. Sixteen years of people complaining about this number doing the same stupid scam. What does it take for the FTC to step in?

Robovoice voicemail claims to be Xcel Energy. The message just says they want to discuss my account, but don't really say anything is overdue. We've been on autopay for as long as I can remember and have never been late on this bill. Over the last couple weeks I started receiving calls from this number as well as emails full of misspellings and grammar mistakes.  I figured it was a scam so I don't bother picking up.

The 888-335-7976 number is likely a scam. I called Xcel on their regular number and they said they didn't call me. If you received a call, claiming to be from Xcel or any other institution, the best thing to do is hang up. Lookup and call the official number.
