- Blahblahblah123Just got called as well a few times before and one today on my work phone number 5/8/2013. Also stating it was from a "James Howard" from the phone number 888-347-2365. Saying the same thing about a district court arbitration. I never placed any loans even for college, and have very little to pay off on my current credit card....so this forum has been very insightful.
Thank you all. Let's move to take these idiots down. - Deborah Spurlock| 1 replyReporter stated they were calling me in reference to a payday loan from 2008 that is now $600.00 but they are willing settle for $500.00, she alway state they were a company from Washington DC and when I asked the name she stated State District Court.
- Caller: Washington State District Court

- Alfalfa replies to Deborah SpurlockThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law. - clyde replies to Angrygot a message also from "James Howard" with the exact same case # of someone else on these posts. Hummmm...I too only have 48 hours before the law comes to get me.
- C@SueuThis company called everyone in my family including my mother-inlaw. Scaring the hell out of them saying they were from the Sheriff's office and that I was due in court for numerous charges. I called the number and it says they are receiving a lot of calls and ask that you leave a message.. Crazy!! I am trying to contact an attorney because I want to sue their [***]!! I am so upset. How do these people get away with being bogus... The internet has way too much information on it because anyone can do a search for your name and find out who is related to you.. Harassment is what this is.. Just thought I would share my experience... I hope to God no one else goes through this....

When I tried to speak the lady just kept saying hello hello and then hung up on me. I will not try again!! After looking this number up on line and reading the various messages I have decided to ignore the calls and have turned this number over to the police to investigate.

- Kathy replies to Angry| 1 replyGot a message yesterday from District Court Arbitration re subpoenas - I called them back and Sherry Owens at x305 was unavailable so I left a voice mail. Got another voicemail from Sherry this morning re subpoenas and court actions. She said she was calling re John Floyd and James Howard and the case # was 460791. They operate in New Jersey. Called them back this morning and they said they were looking for John Floyd --- are you John Floyd. I said "do I sound like John Floyd" and why is NJ threatening to file against someone in Denton, TX. He said he would remove my telephone # from his "list" and never call again.
- KathyThese people need to have their "Obama phones" taken away from them. They probably work for Obama and he's trying to get the nation's attention on sometime else so they'll forget about Benghazi. Well, we're not going to forget about Benghazi or the BS this administration is putting out. No one in this household owes these people any thing. I wonder if Sherry Owen is a new Czar for Obama. Totally bogus call - and totally bogus President.

- krisI have received multiple calls from this "James Howard" also that is with district court abortation. They gave me a case number and the 1-888-347-2365 number to call back. If I did not respond in 48 hours there would be a suite filed in my county and be served. The funny thing is I am best friends with all the sheriffs in my county so go ahead. I have had several calls like this before. They call me from a local number in my area also then leave this message to call back. I googled this number and got this site. Scam it is all a scam at this time. Block both the local number and the 1-888 number if you can.

- LilyCaller ID said this call came from 773-524-4109, which is a Chicago number, but the callback number was 888-347-2365. I called back, got the voicemail, and hung up. Called again and this time someone claiming to be "Stacy Washington" answered (on behalf of the venerable attorney James Howard, apparently.
I asked for the company name, address, etc. to see if they'd tell me. I was told that they are "District Arbitration" in Washington D.C. and that they are located at 720 F Street (of which there are several...720 F Street NE, NW, SE, according to Google Maps. She didn't specify which F street but most of those addresses are houses, and one is a hotel, I think.)
Anyway, she claimed that I was about to be sued by a payday lender whose loan she said I took out in August of 2006. She then proceeded to rattle off the last 4 of my checking account number to "prove" they had the right person...and it was wrong. Really wrong. Not even close. I actually laughed out loud and said, "that's not right!' and she got annoyed and said "What do you want to do here?" (As if you actually have leverage when your info is WRONG.) Oh yeah, and she informed me that my case would be heard in court on July 4th. I had to remind her that July 4th is a HOLIDAY. She then said it would be July 5th. I said that was fine, and that they could go ahead and serve me the papers. She hung up on me.
NOTE: I have dealt with scum like this before... I used to ignore the voicemails they leave, hoping they would give up when their "scary" messages didn't spark a response from me. But one enterprising scam company actually called my job and spoke to my HR department, forcing me to explain to them that I was a target of scammers. After that, I realized I had to call them back and tell them I WANT TO BE SERVED MY PAPERS. That FREAKS THEM OUT because they have no script for that! They usually get mad and hang up on you. Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS RECORD ALL CONVERSATIONS with these [***]. I have hilarious mp3 files of me demanding to know when I will be served, etc. I also ALWAYS report their [***] to the FTC website, with all details of numbers, names, threats.- Caller: "District Arbitration"

- Paula in Mo| 2 repliesSame here! A Stacy Washington claims I owe for a payday loan from 10/2011 to Check Advance Usa thru Loan.com. The Ph# that came up was 410-630-4290 & the call back # was 888-347-2365. Says it was a $300 loan & would settle for $475. She also said charges would be filed in the county I lived (& she stated the correct county). I was going thru a divorce then & unfortunately did take a payday loan... Not with the Check Advance place.. But I know it was paid. & I don't for the life of me... recall anything of this nature. This is VERY stressing to say the least!!! There's a place for people like this! My next step is to report the calls to the FTC & the FCC.
