Why on earth would you schedule a payment with someone who calls you out of the blue? ALWAYS do your homework first...especially if you don't owe anyone!

My sister received a voice mail message from 888-427-1104. He identified himself as Robert Brooks from the offices of Morgan & Moss. He stated he was trying to reach my mother regarding a pending suite. He stated he had her SSN and she needs to call them immediately. I called and spoke with a lady regarding the case # and she indicated that our mother had been named as a defendant in an upcoming law suite. I questioned her who exactly she was. She gave the firm name and the free #. I said I already have that, I want your physical address. She  said she could only give that information to my mother. I said well that's impossible, she's been deceased for almost 30 years! She said, well why didn't you just say that and hung up on me. I called her back and I was not so polite. I told her their firm was on notice, that under no circumstances were they to contact any other member of my family! She laughed and said oh, we're on notice, okay then and hung up on me again. SCAMMERS!

PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!  If you look into their "company", you'll find a few interesting details.  Most of these details, on their own, no big deal.  When put together show exactly the kind of scammers they are.
First, their business address (5000 BIRCH ST SUITE 3000, Newport Beach, CA 92660, US)  is located at a VoIP Business Park.  At these locations, you can "rent" an office room, PO Box, conference room, or just be listed as a suite. It's for small companies that don't need/want the overhead of a traditional business.  They have a different mailing address, 1927 Harbor Blvd Suite A #396 Costa Mesa CA 92627.  It's a PO Box at a mailboxes etc. thirteen minutes from their "building"  Having a PO Box isn't unusual for business but, still strange.  Why not use a PO Box at their business address?  Obviously their phone numbers are just generated through an app or through different IP addresses.  Their CEO, as listed on the BBB, is Ed Goldhammer. I assume he is actually the highly unprofessional Robert Brooks.  I believe the woman "Pam Jankins" is his wife or general partner in crime.  Regardless of my opinions on who is running the scam, the point is THIS IS A SCAM.  I have personally reported them to both the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa police departments, the FTC, the Attorney General of California, and the Postmaster General for the PO Box.  If you receive a phone call from them ignore it.  They have a habit of calling you repeatedly from a blocked number.  You can tell that by other sites like this as well as their reviews on the BBB mentioning repeated calls.  As far as the BBB goes, notice how their reviews are either one star, or five.  No in-between.  The real reviews are the one star reviews.  That is people like you and me.  The five star reviews are them, trying to make themselves look good.  They say "We have a five star rating on the BBB!"  What most people don't know is that is based on a few factors and in many ways is no real reflection to the business they review.  Sorry for the lengthy post but, wanted you all to be aware.

This company breaks many rules of FCRA in an attempt to collect a debt that has passed the statute of limitations.  Threatens legal action after the statute of limitations has passed, divulging personal info without verifying the callers ID, refusal to send a debt validation letter. And that was all in a call under 5 minutes before they hang up on you when you ask some simple questions. They are looking for an easy mark that will pay them over the phone or set up a payment plan without validating the debt. Dont fall for their nonsense.

I can say with 100% certainty that they do not break any rules of the FCRA since that law applies only to credit reporting and not debt collection.  It does appear that they are breaking the law called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Got a call from 501-263-1709 (number left on voicemail was 888-427-1104) stating they were from Morgan and Moss. The guy that left a message was John stating a complaint had been filed against me that I owe $1,189.30 from a Citibank account from 2004. The only reason I called was because they called my brother and left a message. I called 501-263-1709 and spoke with a lady (forget her name) to see what this was about. They had the wrong date of birth and not sure about the ss#. They say they have sent me several things in the mail and I told her that’s a lie because I open all my mail. She told me they would settle for $516.18 and I told her that’s a lie. I kept asking her with type of account was they and she couldn’t tell me. I asked her for the number to Citibank so I could call them and she didn’t have the number. She told me I would have to look it up online (Citibank Charge Off Recovery).  I asked her why she didn’t have all the information and she got an attitude and said she wasn’t trying to get me to pay it. She stated she would place the account on hold until I researched it. I told her I don’t have any in collection because I have paid everything off. These people are crazy and I’m not paying it and they can do whatever they want to do with it.

He asked if I intend on paying it or what were my plans... I started to ask if they can send me the info... He said they arent sending the info anymore because I wasnt replying back... I said ok... Email it then... Gave him that info... He did email it... But then he said so what are your intentions??? I said Im gonna call the BBB and as I was trying to say that he kept talking over me.. Emails are not a legal method of debt validation. Nor are phone calls, faxes, or texts. And why would you waste your time calling a toothless, worthless organization like the BBB?
If you haven't already, read the very helpful post written by BigA just a few posts above yours. It tells you exactly how to deal with this caller.

Got the same call today while at work, I didn’t answer bc I had NEVER seen this number before so I just let it go to voicemail, I then listened to the voicemail and it was a lady saying I needed to hurry and call them back due to someone filing  a formal complaint against me, which is crazy. She used my maiden name and last 4 # of my ss#, I didn’t call them back I waited to get home and let my husband listen he said totally sounds like a scam. It crap!

They just called my wife and left a VM for me about a debt I supposedly owed. I called back with the ref. Number they gave and spoke with "Steve plante" and had him send me an email about the supposed debt. It's an energy provider in our area with which I've never used at an address I haven't lived at in years. The debts supposedly from 2014. I don't trust em, if they're legit then I'll be watching my mailbox. They're very rude people btw. And I did check my credit report. I have nothing from this energy company on my credit report
