- Julia| 25 repliesI got a phone call from a man saying that he had papers out to serve me for a civil suit against me. That call came from a different number (318-929-6121) out of Blanchard, Louisiana. I asked him what that was about and he gave me this number, 1-888-465-0354, and a case number. I called this number this morning and spoke to a very rude person by the name of "Allen Shore". He said he was with Brentford Legal Group out Los Angeles, CA. He starting getting even more rude saying things like shut up, you're an idiot, mind your business, and that's what's wrong with you people. I asked to talk to his supervisor and he said he was it and I had to talk to him. He told me "I own you" and went on to tell me my Social Security number and said he knew where I worked and where my bank account was. I hung up on him, called back, and a nice lady answered. I told her what happened and told her I did not want to talk to him again and wanted to talk to his boss and she put him right back on the phone. I saw this same "Allen Shore" name and same legal group associated with a different number, 1-888-490-9859, on this site. I believe it to be a scam. Can anyone tell me if this number has been found to be a scam?
- Caller: Allen Shore/Brentford Legal Group
- BigA replies to Julia| 4 repliesI'm a little confused with your post. You received a call but did not post in that thread. Then you found another thread where the question :found to be a scam?" has already been answered.?
- Julia replies to BigA| 2 repliesI did not find a thread with the phone number that called me so I thought I could see if anyone else got a call from the number that called me.
- BigA replies to JuliaYou "did not find a thread"? Hmm, I just put that number in the search box and it took me right to it. https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-318-929-6121 That is the only way that you would have found this thread as well.
- Julia| 5 repliesI did not look up the "318" number. "This thread" I started because I did not find one withe the 1-888-485-0354 number.
- Tygerkat replies to JuliaYou didn't find a thread for the number that called you so looked to see if others had gotten calls from the number that called you?!

What you previously said, correct?Quote:I did not find a thread with the phone number
Which makes your previous statement a lie?Quote:I did not look up the "318" number.
Yet you saidQuote:I started because I did not find one withe the 1-888-485-0354 number.
Which is not the number that called you, correct?Quote:so I thought I could see if anyone else got a call from the number that called me. - george palaziolI just had the same experience with the same phone number
- Caller: Some legal group
- Call type: Debt collector
- George replies to JuliaThey contacted my daughters cell phone looking for me. I had the same experience. Rude, unwilling to give me any info. Told me it was in regards to a gym debt from 2015 I have no record of.
- NimrodThis appears to be a "Fake Process Server" scam.
There are no letters, papers or documents and no court cases are going to be filed.
The message they leave is intended to instill enough concern in the intended victim that they will return the call. The scammers will claim that there is some outstanding "debt" that they are trying to collect on. The claimed debt will usually be very old (beyond the Statute of Limitations) and a fairly sizeable sum. They will offer to let their victim settle the debt for a fraction of that amount and avoid being sued in court if they pay then and there over the phone. They will be very aggressive and try to browbeat and threaten the victim to make a payment. They will refuse to give any details about the debt beyond generalizations and will also refuse to agree to send any documents supporting their claim, often claiming that they were already sent at some earlier time.
Relatives of the intended victim and even employers (present and past) may be called in an effort to embarrass the victim into calling the scammers to get the calls to stop.
The best course of action is to ignore the calls and not return the call. If you have any doubts about being sued, call your local courthouse instead and have them check if anything has been filed against you, you will find the lack of results reassuring.
Remember that if you were really being sued, a real process server would not call you or a relative about papers needing to be delivered, they simply show up and serve the papers.

(Information oft posted by regular poster BigA)
The fake process server/location finder extortion attempt usually consists of the following:
They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contain a “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that dispute/debt validation request letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I spoke to the same guy as you did except they called him "Jim" that day. It was about a bank account from 10 years ago. The statute of limitations in my state is 3 years. Once I started to question their validity he did the same thing and threw a hissy fit because they got caught. They seem to think they can either scare you into not questioning them or are just the worst scammers in history. Make sure to call the 3 credit bureaus and freeze your credit reports, as well as taking the steps provided in the explanation above.

- TrixieSame SCAM. This time was a lady named Sofia. She called my work, my sister and brother. That she will serve me with documents from "the process server". "You have been notified", she yells....She called from said number and left a case number and threatens everyone she speaks to.
They called about 3 weeks ago, then again today. "Silly Rabbit....Tricks are for Kids!" They can call me all they want. I won't answer. I'm so sick of all these thieves.- Caller: Process Server Office

- WLR replies to Julia| 5 repliesThe number: 888-485-0354 - at least that was the number of this scam when they called me. I was gullible. Please don't do what I did and pay them. It is a scam and I filed a police report. The numbers change so beware. First, Alan Shore, abusive, said he was with "Franklin Legal Group," then Judith Alvarez, said it was "Brentford Legal Group." They emailed letters which at a glance (was using my phone to read them, duh) real from a Steven Vargas admin@legalaidpro.com with "Confidential" on it. They prey on fear, saying they will take you to court and garnish your wages and that it is way to late, so pay now. The letter had "Brentford Legal Group 633 W. 5th St., Los Angeles, CA 90074 and the "Contact 888-485-0354" was on the letterhead. The abusive Alan Shore hooks you with fear and anger and then Judith, "the nice lady" reels you in and assists you in parting with your hard won dollars for what they say was a debt that was in collection - although I had never had a letter from the debtor. Also: some of the members of this scam are trolling these pages, too. Pause. Sense it out and be safe. I wish I had done so - was in a bad place and they take advantage and prey on people.
- WRRCalled and told them the piece of crap they wanted hadn't, been around for years and he didn't dare show his face here. Then told them to remove my number from their list. I was told my number was removed then told to shut up

I just got a similar call from a “nice lady” by the name of Sophia. She stated that I needed to be at an old address to be served by a officer . After asking her what was this about she gave me the 888-485-0354 number and a case worker . Phillip answered and said I had a payday loan from 11 years ago and I gave them fake checks and now it’s a felony and I have to go to trial . After asking him for a manger and asking him more about this “payday loan “ he became upset . Yelling and over talking me . Calling me a ghetto criminal! Telling me I should die even going as far as talking about my child . People are so sick . I just can’t believe someone is taking time out of life to scam innocent people . I almost fell for this mess . But the unprofessional butt holes let their true colors show and I knew then it was a scam .- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Kayla replies to JuliaYes! This number has called my husband about MY father. I called and they were extremely rude to me. I asked if they could remove my husbands number off and I was told he couldnt because he didnt have a file, but yet he was asking for the file information. I personally think it is a scam, because my dad does not have my husbands phone number to put on file anywhere.
- MSE replies to JuliaI received the small call, same names attorney Allen Shore, very rude and hateful then Judith extremely nice. Called back and asked what floor they were on or suite number where they're located his response ,WHY? Told me I was harassing him. Asked Judith I didn't see anything associated with them with all the business at the address they're supposed to be located. Trying to see if this BLG is even a legit business.
