Called for someone who does not live here, but happens to have to same last name as mine. Have called twice - first time very rude, second time could not have been sweeter. Left a long message on my machine asking me to have this person call them about a matter of delicacy.

Lady called today while we were away & left msg to please call with a reference # & ph extension # for people we've never heard of. They called us by name at beginning of msg, so it was not a wrong # call. She did NOT identify herself or Company she was calling for. I was able to block the phone #.

Do you happen to have an address for this collection agency?  I ask them to provide me with it so that I can start making some payments, but they wouldn't have it.  They wanted me to send over 3000 dollars, which I don't have.  Any advise

    Frustrated in Ma.
I received Numerous calls, 4 of which I answered, many more which I did not. They called looking for someone who moved out 10 years ago, and old roomate, I have never again spoken to. I told them this, and they kept calling. This last time was a William Hernadez, who told me he worked for collection corp and was collecting for American Express. He was very rude and I said why did it take you 10 years to call for someone, it's ridiculous, I explained that the person moved 10 years ago and got aggitated, he basically hung up. I can not believe a company such as American express would retain them, as I have been a great customer of theirs for years I am sure they would not be happy to know i have been beign harrassed by this company over someone who moved 10 years ago.

Received a call today from this number and the caller left two extensions.  Both extensions went to voicemail and when I zeroed out of them, I finally got to someone that was rude and not very helpful.  After I called back and zeroed out enough, I got an auto-attendant that said American Express.  I called American Express and learned that my account was in perfect shape.  I finally called the 888 number and spoke with someone that gave a crap about my call.  He was very helpful and I learned that they had reached a wrong number instead.

Make sure you inform these people that they do not have your permission to contact you, your friends or family.  If they don't stop, tell them you will file for damages.

Look up your rights with regards to any/all collection agencies!

I know that this is the job of "joe blow" at Collection Corp. to call and get your information and HELP YOU pay your bills.  Basically what these people are trying to do is get you to put up as much money as possible on your first payment.  They always say that they are willing to work with you after that but the first payment has to be made right then and there.  If you don't have the money, i.e. a really bad economy and you lost your job and can't pay, then yes, they will continue to harrass you until they get the result they want.  The best thing to do in that situation is to call your credit card company yourself, not the collection agency, and tell them what your situation is.  The card company just wants their money and on average, they are much easier to work with than the evil creditors who are trained in different tactics and measures of harrassment and intimidation.  You can also report the collection agency to the FTC directly as well as the credit card company.  These agencies fight over who gets to be the prick to call and harrass you.  If you're not willing to work with them, the credit card company will attempt to find better representation.

I agree.  Same here; if you actually take two minutes to talk to them you realize they are not only just trying to collect on the money you owe them but also are willing to listen and help you out.  Unless you are just into stealing, there is no reason not to talk to them!

Okay new tactic for collections corp for amx. They called me today, asking for me, my name, saying I was being used as a reference for some other person, whos name I'd never heard of. I was stunned and thinking, who is using me for a reference that I've never met. Then they asked if that person was here, I told them Id never heard of them and asked specific questions about the organization. She couldn't tell me amx name but read off My Address, except with a different apt #!
I then realized it was my neighbor they were looking for, a neighbor I do not talk to or know at all. I told them to fix their records and I was not getting involved in a matter where I had no connection. She told me to google the number 8885244075 to get my answer to who they are and I did.

It does not matter if you get into a payment agreement with them. They will keep calling each and everyday wanting the full amount paid in full. They do not follow their own rules when you set a payment plan.
