I received a call from this number 888 555 1234 stating HIS NAME.AND HE WORK FOR THE  fraud unit at my bank. He had my routing number from my check and wanted me to verify it. since he did have the number I continued to talk to him but he transferred me to a Paul Stanley of the company called IDP.  He was wanting me to not use my ATM card within the next hour so they could place a block for fraud on my account.

After talking to this person, I called my Bank to see how they handled fraud accounts and was told that yes they do call when something is wrong and the person by the name  GIVEN ME BY THE CALLER did work for their fraud unit.  My local branch called back about a hour later and said nothing has been done to my account so we determined to place a stop on all transactions on my account.

My 81 yr old mother received a similar call, stating they were from Etrade, and her checking account had gone public. She had just set up an etrade acct, so thought it was legitimate.  Two "very nice" women, "Emma Walker" and "Holly Gordan", helped her "secure" her information after she gave them her bank acct information.  the number on caller ID was 888  555-1234.  These should be traced and prosecuted, even if it is international crimes.

I received a call from them today telling me that my checking account has been compromised on the internet.  I asked what account and she told me to give her the routing number to verify the account.  I said well which checking account, she said she could not tell me until I verify the routing number but it is the checking account I use the most.  I told her this has happened to me before and I was called directly from the bank, she said there is nothing wrong with my account but the number could be compromised on the database they are held on.  I asked what database and she couldnt tell me.  I continued to argue with her, because i hate telemarketing scams and she finally hung up on me.  I cant believe she stayed on the phone for as long as she did.  Overall, she did not make sense and I cannot believe a company will call and say your bank accounts are compromised.  She almost sounded legitimate initially but it was total nonsense.

Also, when I tried to call back the number, it says it is a non-working phone number.  I had questioned her number came up as 888-555-1234 and no name.  The woman that I spoke to said the calls were routed through a computer and thats why it comes up like that, the phone number is like a fax number so you do not call that one back.  I did not care enough to get the real phone number or her supervisors name.  This ridiculous because we are on the do not call list.

My grandmother just received a call from someone saying they needed routing info to verify a bill she had just "paid."  She told them they had to talk to me and by the time she had handed me the phone, they hung up.  I told her to notify her bank while I looked up the number, which by looking at it I figured it was a scam.  Thank God for *69.  The man had made himself sound important and said there was trouble with her account.  Please tell your aged loved ones, and everybody, that a bank worker will never ask for your routing info.  Nobody should be given that number unless they are trusted by you.  These types of scams are notrious but they keep happening.

Automated calls are now coming from this number supposedly from Cattaraugus County Bank saying your debit card has been locked.  And a number of people have had money taken out of their accounts by giving them their information.

got a call from this number, first on my home phone, then about an hour later on my cell number.  The call was a message from the Kane County Teacher's Credit Union and they had to freeze my debit card and asked me to dial "1" to talk with someone.  I hung up each time, but it concerns me that they knew both my home (unlisted) and cell.  It's got to be a scam!

The block of 888-555-XXXX phone numbers are currently being held in reserve by the FCC and not assigned. This proves the callers are scammers because it's impossible for anyone to own a 888-555-XXXX number today and means that the 888-555-1234 that shows up on your Caller ID is spoofed (the scammers have a way to fake the numbers on your Caller ID). This is why when you call back, you get a number-not-in-service error message. These scammers are using all kinds of lies to try to trick you into providing the necessary info to steal money from your account. Just remember this rule -- if someone calls you and asks for sensitive info, *NEVER* give out anything because there's *no* *way* to tell who's calling (Caller ID can be faked). But if you made the call (like to your bank to check up on your account), then it's perfectly OK to give out sensitive info because you know who's at the other end of the line (your bank) because you called them (dialed their number). I'm not suggesting you blast the scammers with air horns but I've been told they're awfully loud. Regards to you all.

this number belongs to a bunch of crooks.  They called my 90 year old aunt with the knowledge that she needed to give them her checking account number as the bank had a problem with it.  I am reporting it to the local authorities and if I don't get any help, the FBI, locally.

On Sept 10, 2010 I received a phone call from 888-555-1234.  My caller ID said 800 Service.  "Lora Davis" said she represented Nationwide Verification Services, and independent company that removes personal information from the internet.  She said my computer had been hacked into and my banking info had been gotten into which explained why I had received so many telemarketer calls.  She asked for my account nfo promising that afterward I would not receive any more telemarketer calls, and they could be sued if they did call.  Me being gullible, I gave them the nfo.  "Katherine Bennett" was the verification officer who sounded very authoritative and helped verify the nfo.  Then they said I could continue with my banking as usual.  Two weeks later I received my banking statement and found my account had been charged $387.  They did not even mention this would happen.  They also said they would send me a medical card that would not expire as a compensation---it would come 10--14 days.  This never did happen.  I closed my account and changed my phone number.  Puh--lease catch these people and put a stop to all this!
