Said they were from Greenwood Holdings Group. Said they would take legal action if I didn't call them back.  Well I did call them back at the number they gave claiming it was the Plaintiffs # (972) 315-3247.  It just rang and rang with no machine. If you look-up Greenwood Holdings Group there are several complaints against this company.  Beware!

I got a call yesterday from 682-207-8887 - called back and spoke to a Karmen McBride.  She stated she was from RMS Processing and they were charging me with Malicious Intent to Defraud a Financial Institution.  She stated I owed $1,000.00 from a $400.00 payday loan from 2010.  She stated that she represented Sagimore or Sagimoore who is a payday loan servicer.  According to her records, they deposited funds into my BOA account and then when they tried to take the funds out, the account had been closed.  The scary thing is, this person had my SSN and I DID have a BOA account at one time, but closed it to go to another bank.  I knew this was a scam, and as I'm reading the comments, I'm seeing something here... 5/27/15 call from above # gave me a call back # of 888-679-4051 - which is SUPPOSED to be RMS Processing.  This comment gives references a Greenwood Holding group - about 3 weeks ago, I got a call from 309-431-4165 a man named SPENCER - stating he was with PROVISIONAL RISK SERVICES representing Greenwood Holding Group - wanted same amount of $, but stated the charges were Theft of Service; Theft by Fraud; and something else.  These are CRIMINAL CHARGES.  It is ILLEGAL to threaten jail; arrest etc. to collect on a debt - that's a CIVIL matter.  I called and reported to local law enforcement.  Next time they call, I'm going to put them on hold, dial the SO, and put them on conference and let them hear this BS.

Amber Marshall, (did not leave a company name) from this number left a message for someone else even though my greeting clearly states MY name. Says that her office has received several complaints and to call a 708 number to settle as this is whomevers last chance to do so outside of court before info is submitted to the county. States this is a civil matter, gives a case number, and to consider this 'being served.' The  collector also mentioned she needed to confirm home address and verify employment info.

When you call 888-679-4051, it just rings. No vm, no answer. There's no way it's a legitimate business.

Phone calls are NOT a legitimate way to serve someone.  That is done in writing & delivered by an unannounced  process server visit  in most cares.

BTW if there was a real problem, would they not have your/that person's  home address.

I received  a call from this number (which is associated with 219-225-2889 AND 317-759-8799 Indiana numbers - which I have received calls from all 3 numbers) stating I too owe on a payday loan. I was scammed by different people in April for $750. After paying that I called back to get some sort of receipt but both numbers I had been disconnected. That is when I realized i had been scammed!! Then almost a month to the day i received a phone call from the 219-225-2889 # stating i was being sued by CP Investors LLC for a payday loan from 2009. I did my research this time and had ABSOLUTELY NO RECORD of any transactions with my bank from this company. He called me today  (6/16) to receive payment.  I told him this was a scam. He told me it wasn't a scam because they had my SS#, address...blah blah blah. I asked for their address, their website, or email address. He COULDN'T give me their address for their own safety AND they don't have a website or an email address. When i asked him where he was calling from, he told me Indiana. When i asked him what city, he stumbled over his words to say Indianapolis. I

Everything here is exactly what has been happening to me. The number on my caller ID is 8886794051- but they leave a return number of 2036106490 with a reference number. The voicemail is a man that speaks fast and not clearly and I cannot understand the name of a company or  his name. I have returned the call twice to get information and I am given the same story about a payday loan with my bank...again- the account gets closed. I have asked for a mailing address to send a letter requesting proof of debt and I was given a bogus website and another questionable address that I sent a certified letter to last week...still waiting to see if it is deliverable. They say I am going to be served, etc. same as other posts here. I filed an official complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau- I would suggest everyone do the same. Same thing is happening to be. I have called bbb, ftc, and that consumer site. Called my social security office and local police. They called the company who was giving him all my info. He said it was a scam. Proof was privacy act law and they were giving my info and account details out. He told me block the number. They were calling me from a local number they must have spoofed. Let me know how that turns out for you with the letter to verify.

I just got a call from number 888-679-4051 reporting that there has been a complaint filed against me and that the plaintiff wanted to talk to me directly so I needed to write down their information and contact them. I asked her "if they wanted to talk to me directly, why didn't they just call me directly" and she again repeated her line and asked me if I had a pen and paper to write down their information. I said no and she hung up on me. Be careful!

These people have called my husband I from several numbers. They refuse to validate any debt, a debt that we know doesn't exist. Each person gives a different story. I've blocked 4 numbers so far and they just call from a new one. It's exhausting and they're saying they have our address. The last man stated I should "be really concerned with who I'm dealing with" and told me he had my address, repeated the address and basically threatened me because I called him a name. Yes, I did. They invade my personal time daily and I'm over it. I don't even know where to begin to stop this madness.

Same kinda of call from this number it started from 219-627-9557, and I called and they gave me the whole line of crap of owing on a payday loan i never took out and had to pay now 606 bucks. I asked for paper work to be sent to me and she yelled and said what good is that going to do. Then I got called from 317-759-8799 saying they would be serving me the next day if I did not call back and settle the debt. Then the following day from 888-679-4051, and they keep calling my parents house where I used to live. The scary thing is they had all my info, and they wont stop calling!!!!! I got identity theft protection for myself being they had my info, but now it is frustrating the amount of times they call.

I get scam calls alot. I've seen this one before. I often answer the line before it goes to voicemail, then immediately hang up without talking. Authentic legal action is not handled over the phone, it's handled in-person, by law enforcement with a warrant, and it's not done by surprise, nor verbal threat, nor by provoking fear. (Guilty parties already know their guilt). Coincidentally, these types of scams have increased along with the increase in illegal immigrants crossing the US border.  Therefore, there is no telling where the money from unsuspecting victims ends up.

SCAM!!! These callers have been doing this since 2001 or prior. I did some research on this. The US Attorney General's Office has been conducting an ongoing investigation on these callers. Here is the website link  http://www.justice.gov/ag . . . which is the US Dept of Justice. If you open the webpage and in the search bar type "pay day loan scam calls" . . . it will pull up 3 pages of links of different cases they are investigating.

SCAMMERS have hacked into payday loan websites over the years and get your info there. If you've EVER filled out an app on a payday loan website this is where they get all your personal info. I started to fill one out back in 2003 . . never went thru with it. Thankfully I stopped when it asked for relatives info. I was like oh no . . red flag there. I never entered any bank account numbers either. Just to be safe, I also closed those account numbers and now have different acct numbers right after this.

Even though there has been an ongoing investigation the authorities haven't been able to stop this. These scammers change the phone numbers too frequently so, they have trouble tracking the callers. Unfortunately, I don't think there's an end to this. Blocking these numbers doesn't help . . they just keep changing the numbers to continue the harassment. Thinking they've scared you enough for you to take the bait. A lot of them are foreign who speak with heavy Indian/Middle Eastern accents. Lately, in the past 2 months, I've noticed that they have American speaking scammers. OR, I got a call 2 weeks ago saying I have an unclaimed package and to call such number to find out details where to pick up this package. I HAVE NO PACKAGE COMING!!! It's a trick to get you to call them. So be aware they are pulling all kinds of tricks to get you roped in on FAKE collections against you.

Best advice is to IGNORE . .DO NOT CALL THEM BACK AND DON'T ANSWER. .LET VOICE MAIL PICK IT UP!!
This only feeds fuel to the situation. I have caller ID . . I don't know the number . . I don't answer . . and I will not call a long distance number they give in their voice message. This is not SOP. Legit debt collectors use toll free numbers. If this was legit, I would have been served or taken to jail a dozen different times by now! Nobody has ever come to my front door to take me to jail or serve me any papers to attend a court hearing. Never happened.

Through the years I've also noticed a pattern where 3-4 months go by without any calls . . and then boom . . I'm flooded with call after call for a couple weeks straight. Then it comes to a halt for another 3-4 months, and they start it all up again using different phone numbers. NOW . . you tell me . . if a legit collections company would not let this continue on and on over a 3-6 year period. Another red flag. If this were a legit debt collection company, they "work with you" to set up a payment plan, and wouldn't demand a large lump payment with a time limit of 24 hours.

I have kept a spreadsheet log of hundreds of these phone numbers when I've reported them to proper authorities.
Below is some more helpful info as well on how to handle these scammers. Good luck. Stop answering these callers
and report the info to your proper authorities.

For Extortion Scam Operations,  File reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice, CFB, FTC & FCC..  Emails can be attached to complaints filed with IC3, the cyber crimes division of the FBI.

Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you
arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize.
You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this
information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your
personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number.
Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state
officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide
you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the
    caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice."
    This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or
seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's
sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal
financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless
you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt
collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor
about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor
has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with
    information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding
that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you.
By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling
    (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

I have just started getting calls from a "local" number - 303-536-1703, which I didn't answer. The message is an automated call stating I am about to be named in a civil suit and they want to offer me or my legal representative a chance to get my statement on file - they leave a claim reference number. This morning I got another call from the number and took the call, pressed 1 when offered the chance to talk to a representative. She said the same things about the civil complaint, asked to verify my name and phone (which I did, since they already have it) but then wanted the last 4 of my social before she would tell me what the claim is about. I told her I certainly wasn't giving that info out to some stranger on the phone hung up. She actually called me back (from 888-679-4051) and I told her to stop calling me. So far no more calls today but they've been calling a couple of times a day for a week or so.
