This is A SCAM or don't you understand that part? Oh and Karma is a B%^&h!  So one day when you have something horrible happen to you or your livelihood remember how callous and nasty you were creep!!!

My husband called me at work in a panic and said I was being sued and they were going to come to my work and arrest me. I called the number back and it transfer me to the person the would help me it just rang. If this was a professional debt collector they would at the very least have hours of operation on their  message. I then googled the phone number they called me from and got nothing. Red Flag! Then I googled their name. All I got was reports of SCAM!! DO NOT give these people any of your personal info!!

The number they called me from came up on the ID as "unavailable"

I have been reading your posts and it looks like they are claiming to be like 2 different companies. I called this number back and got a voice mail for URG, I didn't leave a mess. But I have been getting tons of calls from another number, now I"m getting them from this number saying they need to serve me at my home or place of work. I would think if they had papers to serve me they would just do it, not call me and tell me they were. That just doesn't make since to me.

I received a strange phone call this morning at 11:28am CT.

The voice mail message stated it was for Thomas Alexander (not my name but similiarties to a family member's name).  The voice identified himself as Danny Logan and stated that he was performing an investigation and this was official notice.  He provided a file number: 133**** and stated I needed to call the Plaintiff's Office to discuss.  The investigation was related to "declined checks utilized in your name".  He further stated that if there was no response the local authorities would be in search of me at my residence and place of work.

The number provided to call was (866) 884-4057.

I first tried to search the number provided online and did not have any luck.    So, I called this number and "Ashley" answered the phone stating that I had reached "URG Offices".  I quickly typed that into the Google search bar and found a reference online that indicated it could be a scam.  I explained to her that I received a strange call and was told to call this number, but I needed to know what company this is.  She repeated URG Offices.  I asked what the company does and she stated "litigation".  She asked me for the case number I would have been quoted and I told her I found a reference online that this could be a scam so I wanted to know more about the company so that I could research before moving forward.  She said "Give me the case number or I can't talk to you".  I said, I just need some general company information first.   She then yelled "I NEED TO KNOW THE CASE NUMBER TO KNOW IF YOU'RE SOMEONE I SHOULD BE SPEAKING WITH".  I said "Good-bye Ashley" and hung up the phone at that point.  

I do not have any declined checks, nor does my family member with a similar name.  There is absolutely no history of debt settlements.  So this appears to be a phishing expedition in additioin to a scam related to people that have settled/paid off previous debts.

I got a message.  Never have seen anything in the mail before.  They said they were a private investigator from the state....yes the state.  Then the message gave me an hour to call or they would be at my door..." With the local authorities". Between 3 and 6.   Something about court case a number and when I checked it in the courts.....nothing.  It worries me that they can claim thousands in fees as the above note mentioned.   Who are they and what are the rules in the state of ca????  

To collect a debt I know they cannot show up to your homeanyone else have this happen?  I am wondering if I talk to them

Received a called today, 10/10/2013 from someone claiming to be Agent Clark with URG Legal Services.  She gave me a phone number of 1-855-803-1229, she was very rude and demand that I was the person she was looking for, I informed her that the individual was not available and went on saying "Ms. XXXX, and I saying No this is not she and then she got very rude with me saying I was hostile with her.  This is a scam

Aggravating collection calls

These people called my wife's mobile phone and left a message intended for me. Ashley King was the rep who called both times leaving only a number  with extension and case # to call back in regards to a legal matter that was pending against me. Stated that if I did not contact her back, proper authorities would come to my place of residence with a formal notice. Not once did she state the name of the business she was calling from and we have not received anything in writing from them to prove validty of this undetermined debt I owe. I had to call back the number to find the business name (urg offices). I filed a complaint today with the FTC, State Attorney Generals Office, and BBB. We have been working with a credit company for over a year know trying to improve our scores and dispute debts we know are not legitimate and at no time have we over looked anything. This is a scam...I just know it and I'm not waisting my breathing with them.

OK, so in interest of full disclosure I work for a collection agency.  I've always worked for collection agencies.  I do the payment processing.  HOWEVER! We aren't the illegal kind that threatens you or harasses you.  We're a legitimate company that collects on debt.  It's a lucrative business.
But I can't stand seeing posts like this.  There is plenty of money to be made legally collecting on debt.  I get calls all the time from clients of ours who have settled debt with us, gotten their paid letters that close out their account and they still get harassed by other companies.... it makes my blood boil.
The first think you should know about the standard collector:  If you hear words like investigator, legal department, process server, summons, _____ county courthouse or alike, its collections.  Straight up, run of the mill, bonus $$ driven collections.  Please don't lay awake at  night worried about the process server that's coming to your house tomorrow.  It's not happening.  

Second, the people you are speaking with are changing their names.  You're not speaking to Neil Goldstien or Sarah Lathem or even Officer Calhoun.  So don't bother trying to file complaints against people specifically, they don't exist.

Third, keep an eye out for companies that say your balance is $6trillion but the "attorneys" are willing to settle for $8.00.  Huge divides between the amount you supposedly owe and the amount they're willing to accept is a huge red flag and its probably desperate and fraudulent.

Fourth, ASK QUESTIONS!! Ask what address they have on file. Ask for banking information.  I've worked with dozens of different types of collections software, they all have spaces for banking info.  If they don't have what bank you were using at the time, its fraud or "bad paper" which means the information is probably only partly accurate (your ssn or bday) but the debt was probably paid years ago.  Don't ever be afraid to ask questions.  The one thing that I hear people doing a lot though that doesn't always prove a company is fraudulent is asking for original documentation.  A lot of times Credit Card debt or payday loans wont have actual contracts or any documentation at all other than the chain of title and that's not something that can be given out.  So don't write it off if you get a letter with your debt information but it doesn't have attachments of video of you taking out the loan or finger prints off the door handle of the bank you got the credit card from.  Sometimes its just not available.

Fifth and final.... if you feel threatened, hang up the phone or record the call.  Don't put up with it.  Usually with fraudulent companies any talk of legal action or recorded calls will send them running with their tail between their legs.  File a cease and desist letter and send/fax/email them... (google cease and desist collections template) there's TONS of them out there.  File a complaint with the attorney general of the state the collector is in.  Attorney general complaints SHUT FRAUDULENT COMPANIES DOWN! QUICKLY!

I hope this helps....oh and I've spoken with URG in the past.  Complete fraud.  Take it from someone in the trenches.  I can tell a fraudulent company from a mile away.  I've been doing this for a long time.  Do not pay them. Don't even pay them attention.  Fraud fraud fraud.

This company URG calls and they say the authorities are going to come to serve me unless I pay them $333.00 right now.  They were mean and very much a bully. I explained that I owed them no money, etc. They will not leave me alone.  They call my work and my cell phone.  They are downright abusive and yelled at me when I said I would not send them any money,   The number that they use is 1-866-833-6935 ext 271. They were horrible and I did NOT owe money.  It was an old debt that had already been paid.

I hope that you were able to stop them they are harassing me now at my work and on my cell phone.  They are horrible and rude and mean.  I owe them nothing either. I have reported them.

Thank you for writing this.... URG told me they were  coming to get me with the authoriies.  The good thing is I owe nothing to anyone, but they still tried to bully me.
