- ANTHONY MALTESE| 1 replyI just had my land line installed and the first message i received was from "credit protection agency" asking for someone else and stating if i am not that person to call" 888-701-1043" to remove my telephone number if it was not that person. Called them several times to remove my telephone number, but am still being harassed by this collection agency. Will not put up with it much longer.
- Caller: CREDIT PROTECTION AGENCY
- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to ANTHONY MALTESEYou will need to do the following for them to remove that number, calling never works with these so called debt collectors, even though legally it should:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

And the Massachusetts AG office: http://www.mass.gov/ago/ - Catherine replies to CPACPA is too stupid or does not care that they call the wrong number. DOES ANYBODY there actually do research on a number and who "owns" it before calling>? We have had the same number for 30+ years. No one by the name of the person they supposedly are calling about has EVER lived here. Debit Collectors with no conscious or intelligence apparently.
- Catherine| 1 replyCalling a number we have had for 30+ years about a person who has never lived here and is unknown to us. Credit Protection Ass is just harassing anyone they can find to locate the person supposedly owing a debt.
- BigA replies to CatherineLuckily the permanent solution to your problem has been posted. All you need to do is read it and follow it.
- Tac-manStarted recieving the same automated calls 1 888-701-1043 from CPA, so i put my # in to not get called, yet they now call even more, what dicks! They r tring 2 get a Michael McClendon.

- nmbIn our case, this was a legitimate call. We had disconnected service with Austin Energy. Even though we had autopay, once you disconnect, autopay no longer works, so the final payment is left dangling.

- AngelaThis number calls CONSTANTLY, first telling you it's a collection agency, then gives you a number to be removed from the calling list, then gives another number for you to call with a confirmation code. What does this mean. First of all, If it's a collection agency why are they giving an option to be removed from their calling list? 2nd why would they give me another number to call. Collection agencies won't do any of these things.Theyre gonna talk to you. They will blow your phone up and harass you. They won't give you an option to stop being harassed. I tried calling the number, and it put me on hold and never answered. None of it makes any sense.

- deeCalled from 8662766177 , from CPS, asked to call 8887011043 to remove # if reached in error, but if it was correct to call 8443431590 with "request#31600917". Why would a legit company call from one phone# give another phone # to call back for removal and yet another # to call to confirm?
