    scam scam scam

I was waiting for a call from my cable company so when an 888 number called I answered it. Oops...

Credit Card Holder Rewards Center from Visa/Mastercard telling me that because of my excellent payment history they can reduce all my interest rates to 0.0% on all my cards and the process can be completed in a few minutes. This is a limited time offer. All I have to do is press 1 to speak to a qualifications specialist.

I stayed on the line but didn't press any numbers just to make sure I got the recorded message correctly. They hung up after 4 minutes.

Actually it probably isn't a real working number...  Most of these scammers spoof the number that shows on your phone.  They have now started spoofing 800 and local cell numbers.  I hate to defend att but If it is a real number, there are 100's of vendors selling 8xx numbers other than att.

Let me know when the congress critter smack down happens and I'll help...

It looks like WE are gonna' hafta' fix it by ourselves. A PLAN: a) Sign up for the National Do-Not-Call Registry. It won't stop all calls, but now the ones who disregard it are breaking the law and are FAIR GAME. b) Answer the phone and engage them. The object is to waste as much of their time as possible. If it is credit card scammers, give them phony numbers and string them along as long as possible. If it is a Sales Aggregator for Insurance, Home Security, Home Improvement, etc., play along like you are interested, give phony info, and when you get an actual contractor/agent, mess them around too. After 10 - 15 minutes, let them know that you just wasted a bunch of their time because you don't appreciate their use of illegally-operating Sales Aggregators to obtain sales leads. Use your imagination - the object is to make their business model in regard to the NDNCR unworkable. The more of us that play, the quicker they go away - hey, it must be poetry hour...

Do not call will do nothing. Only works on illegitimate businesses.

For the lower interest rate scam. Might as well have fun. After pressing #1 use the following fake info

After you give "her" a fake VISA card number 4627-0519-4328-7147
    Fake bank "Bank of Wichita"
    Fake Credit Limit $15,000
    Fake balance "$5,500"
    Fake interest rate "19.5%"
    Fake expiration "07/14"
Fake "800" number for bank: "1-800-225-5324" (NATIONAL FBI TOLL-FREE LINE)

"She" tells you to hang-on while she verifies your balance.

Of course you hang up while she calls the FBI !!!   :)

If she's really Pi$$ed, you'll get a couple of calls back in short succession which you don't answer.

I had a fun scam call last week you might like. It was a spoofed number with a solar company offering gov't rebates to home owners. I gave them all the fakes and the address for my old apartment. We set an appointment and they were to call a ½ hour before. They called 2 days before - no message. They call again the day before - no message. I waited until 11:30 P.M. to call him back and confirm. The next morning I forgot my phone in the car, but he called 7 times. Finally he left a message saying he was standing in front of my apartment.
I almost felt sad for him...almost.

" I am calling the credit card companies to tell them what happens each time I pay."

If the scammers had a direct connection to your credit card company why would they even need to call you to rip you off?

Scammers call ALL THE TIME.  They don't know when your payment is due.

Repeatedly get these calls. I block them. They call from another number regarding combining all my credit card debt and I qualify for special offer.
