I'm filing bankruptcy!! so sue me all you want.......IM not paying - anon| 1 replyGot a message from this company to call back about some legal documents. They are a Law Firm who deals with banks on Delinquent Student Loans. Called back and spoke with Steve. Was some what polite. Does anybody know if i can actually be sued for being delinquent on my student loans? I didn't think you could be sued for student loans, but they told me i could be.

- Tygerkat replies to anonI don't know if you can be sued for delinquent student loans but I do know if you were being served you wouldn't be called in advance because then you could simply avoid the process server.
- AnonI just received a call but it was blocked, the number I was told to call back to was this number. They wanted to schedule a time to serve papers/legal documents. But couldn't tell me what it was for.

- anon| 1 replySo here is an update from June 30th. They called me again today. I spoke with a man my the name of Mr. Logan. He was actually polite and helpful. Turns out they were calling me because they had a mail return from my old address, and couldn't send me my dispute paperwork that was forwarded from CitiBank. But Warning....they are a colleciton agency.

- BobbyThis is a scam you will not receive a call about being served, they would just show up and serve you! To top it off I have no debt at all. This is not some debt that was hidden and just showed up! To make sure I did my due diligence and there are too many holes for them to be a legit company. If they are calling you I suggest you do your research, and don't give any of your information. Also tell your family because they tried to call mine and the trick is to make your family feel bad for you so they will pay "your debt" for you. How they got my information is unknown to me.

- BigA replies to anonSorry but your attempt to make this company look legitimate has failed, starting with listing the wrong name. We are well aware of these crooks. This is a scam company. They are not registered to do business, nor are they registered as a collection agency as required by Massachusetts law.
- BigA| 5 repliesAnyone receiving a call from these crooks should be aware that this is a scam company, not registered with the state as either a company or a collection agency.

Website says they are in Massachusetts: http://jsmithassociates.com/index.htm
Website was created in March of 2017 according to Whois.
The BBB has no page on them under that name
The address is a UPS store, but another criminal debt collector by the name of Receivable Management Corporation aka RMC is listed at that address with a “suite” number
They are not registered under that name with the Massachusetts Dept. of State or registered as a debt collection agency, which legally preclude them from doing business.

Also file a complaint with the Massachusetts Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation: http://www.mass.gov/ocabr/government/oca-agen ... -complaint.html
And the Massachusetts AG office: http://www.mass.gov/ago/ - Bite meJust got a call from this number. Of course it was a private caller, which I don't answer. They're message told me about legal papers that needed to be delivered. I've gone through this before with another company. "If you pay now, there will be no charges filed against you". It is illegal for them to use scare tactics.

- P replies to DrakeIt's a collections call. They will tell you that you can go to jail. Scare tactics. Don't even reply.
- Been scammedI was terrorized into paying $3500 several years ago- threatened my home, children, disability, you name it. How do you know if something is legit or not?

- Scammed before replies to BigA| 4 repliesHow do you determine if they are " a criminal debt collector"?
- BigA replies to Scammed before| 3 repliesWell let's see. For starters they didn't follow the law (which would make them criminals) and register their business as required by law as a debt collector. Then there are the reports of them breaking the law (again something a criminal would do) by violating Federal and State Collection Laws. They also again violated the law (criminal) by not registering the business name. Clear enough for you?
- Scammed before replies to BigA| 1 replyI meant no disrespect. They called from new caller I'd, stated they had files on me, wanted to deliver at a certain time etc. I just want to know how someone who has not contacted me previously could do this. When scammed before, I ended up paying the same debt to different agencies. When I finally wished up and stopped letting myself be terrorized, the calls ceased as well. When I called my state a g then, I was told to never pay a debt again yo a third party, only original debtor. Idk what they are even talking about.
Should I call them? Do I wait and see? Do I write to them? I receive disability, don't own a vehicle so idk what they could come after if indeed there is a debt at all. - Been scammed replies to Scammed beforePlease excuse typos I n previous response
Received call from Diana Brown - Scammed before/been scammed replies to BigAI apologize for the previous confusion in my response. I do appreciate you taking the time to read my concerns and reply.
- AnnMy phone didn't ring this afternoon, but when I went to make a call, I found a voicemail from "J Smith Associates," telling me that they had "important legal papers" that need to be delivered to me. They gave me this number to call, and instructed me to ask for the "Legal Department" and give them a specific reference number. The woman sounded like she was reading from a script -- she paused & stumbled over the words twice. I have to assume that my call-blocking app recognized this number & prevented the phone from even ringing through. I found some legal/business websites online that have prominent announcements on their home page basically saying "We're not them." One firm changed its name to "JSA" as a result of the calls they've been getting. I've filed a complaint with the DNC agency.
- Caller: J Smith Associates
- Trech garicaThey left message that they had documents and needed confirmation of a address for delivery and it was a legal matter. Lady left her name and a case number. I am not expecting anything nor do I have any legal issues I'm unaware of. Sorry scammers
