It is extortion Scam. You can not be arrested for owing a debt and real legal servers do not call, they just show up.. Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

For Extortion Scam Operations,  File reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,CFB,FTC & FCC..

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Don't be. These are criminal extortionists operating out of boiler rooms in India. There's nothing they can do to you. Let them know the next time they call you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt, have alerted the authorities and hang up. Be sure and print off a copy of this thread and give it to your employer.

    >>> I'm glad I'm not the only one that this happened to!!! <<<

That's a little like saying you're glad that the whole neighborhood has an arson problem, not just me.

I'd rather put it this way:  I'm glad that you recognized the scam for what it was before you got hurt by it.

These calls are likely not coming from a real bill collector, loan company, or any government agency.  More likely, these calls are coming from cowardly criminals hiding behind a magicJack device plugged in at some God-forsaken corner of the world where there is Internet service.  They simply use a magicJack device and your fear the same way a common thief uses a toy pistol hidden in the pocket of his overcoat to make a bulge that looks like a real gun.

If you want to verify for yourself that this is a magicJack number, just search for it at http://www.phonevalidator.com .

MagicJacks are readily obtainable outside of the United States for about $100 US and can come with up to a year of free calling to the U.S. and Canada.  In India, see, for example,
    http://magicjack.in .
So it doesn't take long to turn a profit, even if only 1 to 2% of the people they call are stupid enough to believe the scammers.  And India has a high poverty rate, low salaries, and a corrupt government that doesn't cooperate with our government in arresting these scammers.  So to someone in India, or in many other places, for that matter, it may make cold, hard economic sense to invest in a magicJack and randomly call blocks of numbers - particularly blocks known to contain cell phone numbers - in hopes of finding a suitably gullible person to scam.

In addition to the regular reporting channels, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp.  This corporation is a fully-owned subsidiary of the company that sells magicJacks and is in charge of assigning telephone numbers to magicJack devices.  I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.

The YMAX Corp. main web page is at:
    http://www.ymaxcorp.com
and their site giving information on how to lodge a complaint is at:
    http://www.ymaxcorp.com/contact.html

Note that the page having information on how to lodge a complaint gives a clickable link to a "live chat" where you can make your complaint to YMAX Corporation.

You should also make a complaint to your state's attorney general's office, letting them know (if true) that the calls appear to be coming from a magicJack overseas, and that YMAX Corporation appears to accept subpoenas from government law enforcement for information that might be used to identify the scammers and at least shut them down.

Just had a call from them! After I proceeded to tear them to shreds with why they are illegal scam jerks, I continued my shredding by asking them the address to where they were, it took him five minutes to google and find the address, then I asked him that AG's name, fail! I then asked for his name and the name of his "boss" in order to report them, he hung up quickly. So I called them back just out of spite to get their names and information. =)

I recently received multiple phone calls from whom I'm assuming is the same guy that everyone is talking about here. He has left me several voicemails telling me that I am in legal trouble and that I need to speak with him immediately, or else there would be a warrant for my arrest. So I called him back and every question I asked him he simply responded "Mmhmm" or "Ok" or kept repeating Hello as if there was a disconnection. I'm my vm he stated that his name was Admin Marshall and that he was calling from California at the Attorney General's Office. I asked to speak with him when I called, the man that I spoke to was also some sort of Middle Eastern and said that he was not in California and that the police would be at my house within 45 mins to 1 hour. He stated my home address and my last 4 digits of my ssn. That's the only reason I was really concerned....he obviously bought my info from somewhere...

Oh, he also sent me an extremely fake looking warrant in my email....really? haha.
