- rita| 1 replyCall me at work and on cell phone inform my Bosé that i Need to call general Office because going to be arrested
- micah| 1 replycall say call attorney general office i am going to jail for 9 years if i don't pay $2000
- Alfalfa replies to micahThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
- debralyn replies to ritaCalled me saying attorney general office. All foreign accents who can barely speak English about a lawsuit filed against me...has all my personal info but won't provide me with info as to what bank account I supposedly obtained money fraudulently from....bogus and really pisses me off
- Jessica Montoya| 2 repliesSaid I was being sued. Would not give me any information at all. Continuously called me harassing me. I told the guy "[***] you" and he began making derogatory comments to me. I hung up on him and he called back and left a voice message on my phone. It was the most degrating, derogitory, innapropriat voice mail I have ever heard.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. - stevencall my work

He said he was calling from a legal office in San francisco, Ca. They threatened to arrest me and said I would go to prison for 7 years for providing inaccurate employment information on a loan website (which was untrue). Then he tried to get me to pay a fee to him to make it all go away. I refused, and hung up. Now they keep harassing me.

- CWG40 replies to DilciaTotal scam. These people are Indian scammer/extortionists. Hard core. They pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and recent immigrants. They also pick on those who might have had financial difficulties in the past. The calls are not random, they are predators and pick and choose their victims carefully. Don't talk to them, don't give them any information.
Block them! - CWG40| 4 repliesThey often say they are with the state attorney general's office. But you can hear the call center noises in the back ground usually. Total giveaway. Plus the Indian accent you can cut with a knife.
