Called, left no message. Caller ID reads "Name Unavailable"

Got a call from this number at work and all they do is hang up. Do people really get paid to dial random numbers and hang up?

I have a suspicion that they are located outside of the US and make calls through some skype internet number. It might be very difficult to catch them, but the number should be registerered to someone who purchased it, because you pay for your skype phone number with your credit card usually.

You don't seem to know the difference between "connect to the internet" and "plug in the computer".

I am sorry if I used terms that were too technical for your limited understanding.

Bonnie is right, and you are wrong. Be sure you know what you are saying before you post. This is a forum to help people, and NOT to a place to pass on BAD information. A computer must be plugged in to power to do steps 1-8. Technical is something you are not, Slim.

You know nothing-Slim is a regular contributor, you are probably part of this and no one is believing you! He meant pulling the INTERNET CABLE, not the POWER CORD! Try reading next time!

Keep receiving calls from this company.  If they answer they say my computer needs has serious problems.

I highly recommend you have your glasses checked, it may be time for those bifocals. And maybe a course in reading comprehension is order.  Better yet, slow down and read it right the first time instead of applying hoof 'n mouth!

Well there is always the possibility that the shill assumes the desktop computer in its work station is supposed go on the lap.

Called.  We did not answered because ID showed not name.  

I got a call from this number today at 5:03 PM.  When I answered, a pre-recorded message about calling from Microsoft played.  The message said I had viruses and warnings and to press the number one on my phone to speak with a representative.  I pressed 1 to speak with someone and the guy I was connected with said his name was James.  He told me my computer had viruses and errors.  He asked me if I could get Google Search or Yahoo and I told him that I could.  He then started telling me to search for this one web address, saying one letter at a time, and after he was done telling me the letters, he told me to f*** myself.  He then hung up on me.  My caller ID read Name Unavailable.

If you don't have caller ID get it. (it is cheap insurance against scammers)
If you do have caller ID 'why' would you respond to someone that you are unfamiliar with?  You are just encouraging them.
It helps if people purchase an answering system which allows you to block phone numbers that you do not know.
Scammers usually hang up if you are using an answering machine recording which tells them to leave their name & phone number.

Two calls this week from foreign sounding person saying they were calling from Microsoft and didn't we get the warnings on our computer.  Microsoft does not call people.  Told them to write me a letter and then blocked the number from my phone.

A female-voiced recording stated that my computer was producing a high volume of weird noise (??) and if I wanted, I could discuss this problem with a Microsoft Specialist...  When I quickly realized that this was (1) a recording, since she kept talking when I interrupted and (2) my computer is NOT Windows-Based... I simply hung-up and went to this (800 notes website) to report the incident (i.e., Robocall Scam with dubious intention) for others to be aware as well.

I answered. No one responded. Dialed the number, but recording advised it isn't valid.
