For the second time this evening have received a call from this #. Comes up Out of area! 1st. time you could hear a lot of background noise but no one would talk, the 2nd. time they just hung up! Does anyone know why you take the time to sign up for the DO-NOT-CALL??? I guess it's like everything else in the government DOES NOT WORK!!!

This number called me to talk to me about my computer. The caller had a super thick Indian accent, the connection was bad, and there was a lot of background noise. I asked the guy to give me my IP address. He couldn't. I asked him to give me his phone number. He said he couldn't. I said this was a scam and asked him how he slept at night. He hung up on me.

Please people - this is the biggest scam ever - do not let these people scare you with the 'your computer is generating major serious reports from Microsoft..' it is scam - and they are trying to get you to buy something or get into your computer which is illegal. Just hang up or do not answer when they call shows as California 949 000 7677

This is pretty clearly a scam as there is no "000" exchange. No doubt the number is generated by spoofing software.

Yet another scam telling you that your PC is sending out some type of signal, blah, blah, blah, DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY WAY WITH THESE IDIOTS!!!

He said he was from Microsoft and that he could detect that my computer was sending out viruses and he was there to help me.  I laughed and said, "Oh..Really?" and he said, "Yes."  I said, "Then PLEASE PLEASE help me fix my computer...giggle giggle".....he hung up on me.

Male caller - recorded messages states- 'Your computer is sending out serious errors and warnings..please press 1 to speak to Microsoft engineers..press 1 now..' the recording did not get that it was addressing an answering machine.

Hi. Have been getting a lot of calls, not just from this number, that have no one there. Then it goes to fast busy signal. Is this an attempt to find out if someone is home or is there other information they can learn. I don't answer with my name.

Got a call from 949-000-7677 today (11-21-14, about 7:00 p.m., est). I did not answer. Google'd the number.
Some of the postings below sound familiar. I was trying to fix my wife's laptop a few weeks ago.
I called the Dell tech support, 1-855-386-2497. The call wound up with technicians with a foreign accent.
They tried the high pressure 'fix my computer' bit, for $300. They said they they were the ones who could fix the driver errors. They kept advising me to never take a computer to a local computer repair shop as they don't have the ability to fix Microsoft errors.
I refused to let them fix it. You could hear in their voices they were somewhat agitated. The call was from 1-855-734-3601. One was male, the other was female.
I had never gotten the call from 949-000-7677, until I dealt with those people.

Got a call from 949-000-7677, rang twice and then they hung up.  It did not ring long enough to go to my answering machine. Caller ID listed "Name Unavailable" and the number.

Microsoft technician support scam

 Same caller, never picked up but the damn answering machine does, so will probably get tons more now.  
These sorts of calls are unfortunately, a sort of logic quiz, ala old -fashioned chain letters (the ones that reference themselves within the same letter!). Those who know little except how to websurf and get email don't understand the logical failings of someone telling THEM their computer is malfunctioning!
 Lesson 1: No level of Paranoia is excessive, when it comes to securing your personal information, now extending from mail and telephones to cellphones, iPads, etc.
 Lesson 2: NEVER trust someone who contacts you, via open means like the phone system, or emails.
 Lesson 3: IF you are concerned, always make your own totally separate contact, via a different source NOT a number/website offered by the suspicious person, and see if there is a legitimate contact in the agency/business and go directly there with your questions.
 Lesson 4: Only give pertinent necessary information to those who YOU have contacted, never to someone contacting you.
 I am generally safer by virtue of being distrustful by nature, but still recently got the worst computer malware in years, likely by clicking the wrong link at the wrong moment. Praise ComboFix!

Have been called at least 3 times in the last week. There is a recording telling me there is  problem with my computer and instructing me to press 1 to speak with an engineer to assist me.

Received a call from this number on my VOIP. It was a recording of someone who claimed to be from Microsoft computer repair. I was told to press the number one for computer repair from Microsoft. I hung up. Call type I would say is computer repair scam to attach computers to hacker activity.

Got a call today from this number. Didn't answer.  No idea what it was about.  Caller ID showed the number, then Name: unavailable.  When I get a call from a number I don't recognize, I pick up, then start hitting the # sign numerous times.  A friend told me that takes my number out of their system. Figured it was worth a try. Seems like I haven't been getting as many calls lately. We'll see.  Some time ago, I remember hearing that if you get a call from 949 that it goes to the Dominican Republic, don't remember the details. Sorry.  

Apparently the new scam is not that your computer is sending out "error messages" like they've said for so many years, but that your computer is generating "weird noises".  

Oh, that's really going to fool people.

I am getting several calls a day from this number, got a message on my computer called it and am out $300. and they only made my computer worse.  I got scamed good.
