Auto message said I had a virus in my computer. Please press 1 to talk to a Microsoft rep. When they answered, so-called rep said Hello? Who at Microsoft answers in this manner. It's a SCAM!

Another fraud call from the phony Microsoft rabid dog robo-callers on a tie-line. This is a new number for the criminal ring. Sadly, they must suck a lot of people into their scam with the proposal to eliminate alleged viruses. What they really do is inject incredible spyware-malware, etc. into your computer, which forces you to go to a real expert to purge them. They unfortunately suck in a lot of money, as it is expensive to rent equipment/tie-lines/office space and pay salaries/commissions. If the telco execs who rent them the numbers were fined and locked up to begin with, as they are enabling these criminal activities, followed by fining and locking up the perps, then all of this telephone terrorism would stop.

The old "Microsoft detected that your computer is infected with viruses" scam. If you do as they ask they will infect your computer with spyware and suck your bank account dry.

Called me yesterday.  I pressed one an argued with woman, stating I knew she was a scammer and not from Microsoft.  Eventually, she hung up, as they all do.  I agree that law enforcement should do something about these criminals, especially if, as this one, they appear to be operating within the borders of the U.S.A.

    Got same scamming call.
You are SOOO right on the telco execs who rent these numbers.  But with our new P-Elect, no doubt that consumer protection laws will instead be weakened and corporate profits elevated.

This is the usual fake microsoft scam coming out of california. They want remote access to FIX your computer. They had no way to know if you even had a problem, but they will install real problems for you. They will down load all personal and financial data from your computer and will install monitoring software. DON'T BE STUPID!!!

They called me a couple of times on a different number, I sometimes answer and play games with them, never giving any real info of course. One caller was so demanding a few choice words was addressed to him and I hung up. Any call that had unavailable on my caller ID  has to be a scam anyway. These low life bumbs belong in jail..

Laguna Beach. "Your computer has a serious virus..."  add this number to your block list - obviously the "do not call list" will never work - and has never worked

    Educational Attempt Number

Fact: The Do Not Call list is NOT a call blocker!
The DNC list is a LIST, subscribed to / purchased by legitimate telemarketers, so they know who not to call.  The cost for the list is about $16,400 per year.  Much more than scammers are willing to pay.

Fact: Scammers and spammers ignore the DNC list.
Many use "war dialers" to quickly dial phone numbers.  After all, phone numbers are just numbers, and are no secret!  (Arabic numbers were invented about 500 AD).

Fact: The DNC list does not apply to NON-sales calls, such as political calls, charities, surveys, debt collectors and businesses with which you have done business with during the previous 18 months.

Fact:  Spam callers can be blocked by getting a real call blocker.
Google (or your favorite search engine) is your friend.

yes, it "appears" as they are in the US, however, they're using spoofed/auto-generated phone numbers via VOIP services which are untraceable.  these scams usually originate from India, Nigeria, or Dominican Republic.
