My 76 year old Aunt fell for one of these, thankfully her credit card company stopped the $250 charge from going through.  These scum bags piss me off!

I got a call from this same number, and knowing that it is the fake Microsoft Tech scam, I pressed "1" and let the fake tech come on and tell me that my computer was sending error messages to Microsoft, and that he called to help me fix the errors. I replied to him that I don't know why my computer would be sending error messages to Microsoft, since my computer runs Linux. He promptly hung up! :)

Is there a device I can buy that would emit a high pitched blast into the phone that would burst the ear drums of the scamming slimeballs who try to steal from people in this way? That would help slow the spread of these callers.

Recording said Microsoft detected a virus in my computer and to press 1 for an operator.  I pressed '1' and asked how Microsoft could detect a virus on a computer running Linux.  The person on the other end hung up.

I usually block these calls from "Microsoft" after checking them out on 800 Notes, but lately--before blocking them--I've begun to answer and, after hearing their pitch, have asked them to call me back on my unlisted office number so I can be next to my PC as we talk. The call-back number I give them is that of our local sheriff's department. Funny, I rarely get contacted from the same scam number again--except for one person (heavy Indian accent) who immediately called back on my landline to, literally, scream at me for "keeping 'Microsoft' from doing legitimate business." Really?  :)

I suggest that we all start sending our complaints about these scammers, robo-callers, etc.--by the thousands-- directly to the White House immediately following the 2017 inauguration. A new administration, a promise of change, "draining of the swamp" (which I assume extends to the swamp creatures who use our own telephones to intrude on our privacy). Yes, let's make this a priority by making life in America peaceful (if not great) again!
