- JonA robocall from UN-known debt collection scam - a scam as I owe no one as I pay cash for everything - A search shows this number to be from Newark, NJ. A land line using PAETEC COMMUNICATIONS, INC. - NJ. They keep calling using a different new number after being told to remove my number from their call list and blocked.

- BigA replies to Mrs. DSo, why did you stop at the first post which gives you almost no usable information when there are other posts that give you lots of usable information?

- tomcatn75 replies to FormersecHi Formersec,
I read your post about the unwanted calls you have been receiving. I had the same problem with my new phone number and it's former owner. I told the bill collector at least 2-3 times that I was not who they were looking for and to please quit calling me. Well, they kept calling so one day I called them back. I was quite tired and PO'ed of their calls and them ignoring my requests to quit calling. I got pretty gruff with whomever I spoke to explaining about my requests to quit calling me. I also got very specific about what I would do next as far as reporting them to the FTC and very firmly warned them to cease the calls immediately. I was not out of line, not name calling or anything like that but I effectively got them to understand they had used up every chance that I had given them before. That's been a few years ago now but apparently I got my message across to them because they have never called me back.
I'm sure in my own mind that your Mr. Wilson did formerly have your current phone number. Then you stated that he must still be giving out that phone number to current creditors or bill collectors. While that is a possibility, I highly doubt that is really whats going on in your situation. Once the creditors and bill collectors obtain what they believe is a good number for the debtor, they hang onto it as if it were a matter of life and death, at least until it's proven that the debtor in fact no longer uses that number. Some of the information the "file" debt collectors receive is often several years old. These debts are often sold to other bill collectors when the first, second or subsequent bill collector is unsuccessful in their attempts to recover the debt. This is just a little bit of insight FYI or for others who may read this.
Good luck in getting your situation resolved.

- Portfolio Recovery Scamers| 3 repliesLow lifers trying to make you pay for expired debts from your youth that they bought for 2 cents on the dollar. You'd be a fool for even talking to them. Criminal collection tactics involving an elaborate set of broken collection rules (including violent threats to you and your employers), They call from boiler rooms across the USA. They are like cancer. NEVER talk to them or pay them ANY MONEY, if you do, you will RE-ACTIVATE old, expired debt and give them the right to hound you for 7 more years!

- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to Portfolio Recovery Scamers| 2 repliesWhat does "7 more years" have to do with the collection of debt? Answer: nothing. That is the amount of time that it stays on your credit report and has nothing to do with the Statute of Limitations or the collection of debt which technically can continue into eternity.

- Me replies to BigA| 1 replyIf you talk to them it resets the statute of limitations to a new debt. Very unfortunate. A trick they use. Resets the seven years and it can go on your credit report
- BigA replies to MeWell too bad you have absolutely no idea about the subject you are posting about. The SOL can only be reset if you enter into a new contract or your make an actual payment which then becomes recent activity. The SOL varies by state and I can find no state that has one that is 7 years. It goes from 3 years to 15 years. Now, as the the 7 years, you as well as everyone else have confused that with the time that credit transactions remain on your credit report. Oh, and by the way, neither one makes debt noncollectable unless it is specified in state statutes and there are only two states that have that limitation.
Try reading and learning before making foolish posts that will mislead people.

- Selena| 1 replyMay want to check two websites 1- the consumer fair credit act and 2-credit card debt statute of limitations. For most states, the maximum is six years. Translation: if it has been 6 years since LAST contact/payment, debt has been written off by that company. They sell the bad debt to collection agencies who then harass you into starting payments to THEM, not the original owner of debt. The winning part is: the debt has been sold to multiple collection agencies, each can start the payment requirements. It never dies. That is why it is called ZOMBIE debt.

- BigA replies to SelenaAnother person who failed to actually take the time to learn about the subject they are posting about. 1-There is no "consumer fair credit act".
2-Statute of Limitations runs from 3 years to 15 years, and possibly more depending on the time of debt and how it is classified. "Translation: if it has been 6 years since LAST contact/payment, debt has been written off by that company. " Wrong, most credit card companies do not hold onto bad debt that long. However the fact that they wrote it off means nothing. Into every contract for loans/credit cards/mortgages,etc there is usually a clause that allows the contract to be assigned, and the assignee then has all the rights to the balance of the debt that the original creditor has. Even if that clause was not in there it could still be assigned unless it was specified in the contract that assignment was not allowed (Contract Law 101). I have never seen one that said that. "They sell the bad debt to collection agencies who then harass you into starting payments to THEM, not the original owner of debt. " See and try to comprehend my previous statements that covered this.

I believe these are random senseless calls. The lack any credibility at all.
