Called today. From reading these comments it sounds like I'm in for several more calls. Thankfully no one in my house will answer calls from any one they don't know. They didn't leave any message.

Called me on my cell.  The woman identified herself by her name, or *a* name, as if "Mary Wilson" or whatever is supposed to mean anything to me. I asked "who are you?" and she repeated her name. I asked "on whose behalf are you calling?" and she said "I'm sorry sir, I don't understand what you are asking."  "WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?" "Sir, I'm calling for Portfolio Recovery Services." "OK, bye."

Received this call from Portfolio Recovery, called number back and as soon as it reached a recording I hung up and hit redial, after about 5 times I got a live person, I told the nice lady that if they would stop calling me I would stop calling them, but because I am retired hitting redial makes a nice hobby. She assured me she took my name of the mailing list, we will see. Had the same problem about a year ago and they quit calling when I told them about my new hobby.

A supposed debt collector. They called in asking about a non-existing debt with Capital One bank. They were asking to confirm the last digits of the social security number and they had the incorrect ones. I gave them no information.

They lost 18 million dollars in a Class Action Lawsuit. The way to stop them forever is to report them to the Attorney General of their state. They will lose their license to collect.

Do you have a precedent for that statement?  If so, can you provide a verifiable, reliable citation for it?

Fedup is correct. Portfolio was ordered to pay people that they have harassed over the years. I was one the members of the Class Action law suit and received a small check a few months back. If they've  harassed you, you can also sign up to receive a check because these people are still doing what they do best. Harass people over non-existent, "ghost debts" that they've bought up for pennies on a dollar. scumbags with nothing better to do with their time but harass.

The part that I was asking for a precedent was "The way to stop them forever is to report them to the Attorney General of their state. They will lose their license to collect."  I know all about the "class action suit" and the fact that everyone got a measly $25 (or was it $35?).  That humors me since you could have each gotten thousands had you sued them individually, something that would have impacted their bottom line a lot more than that class action suit that made the lawyers rich because they would have had to pay you money and pay for your lawyer's fees.

This is a scam debt recovery company. They call repeatedly with multiple excuses (IRS investigations, child support another day, and car loans) trying to get money from you. They are super ghetto and trashy. Report this number.

Wow, have I ever been so stupid! Here I have been blocking number after number expecting a different result. That is actually insane! So I did some research and found this excellent article by BigA on what to do:    https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-859-340-1606

Guess it is time to get busy reading and learning then taking this problem into my own hands and making the calls stop!!!!!
