caller id read 978-867-7856. did not recognize so did not pick up. no message left. assuming these calls are legit in the sense they are offering to give a better electric rate than nstar don't fall for it. unlike nstar these "scab" electric rates are unregulated by the state. this means you'll get a decent rate reduction for a few months then it'll go through the roof and you have no recourse. beware!!

Caller ID: Not_available - When that comes up my telephone software block it (it is a PC software called IdentaFone - has no limits to the how many number can be blocked and can block both number and names)

got a call with no id. I never answer such calls, no message left. blocked it. I have a Panasonic phone that blocks up to 250 numbers. so far 197 numbers blocked since Mar 2014, looks as I will have to revise it in a while - I keep the record of numbers blocked with the dates first and last they called.

called this AM  12/4/14.  I answered, but no response,  Called the number back and got that beeping noise.  Obviously some sort of scam.  Wish I had a call blocker!

You should not give out your actual telephone numbers in your messages to this or any site. The scam artists will use it to harass you even more.

Just got this call today. It says "BEVERLY, MA" but all the comments here suggest it's just a phishing call from some sleazy telemarketer to find phone numbers to use in scamming. If you have the ability to block area codes or specific exchanges and you don't know anyone in either MA or specifically in Beverly, MA., go ahead and block it as needed. I have a device which can do both and it's a treasure. Unfortunately, since I live in MA, I don't want to block legitimate calls from my state or that town. So instead I'll wait to see if they call again at which time I'll block the number itself.  Why doesn't the FCC do more to stop these pests from annoying us?

Multiple calls everyday, presumably all from this same number.  Nobody there when I answer.  Never leaves a message.

Just received a call from the above telephone number. Caller could not navigate my telephone system's auto attendant.

I called the number back using the *67 prefix. I reached dead air.

The carrier for this telephone number is Choice One and it has a rate center of Beverly Mass.

The least-expensive and easiest way to block calls will usually be with your existing phone service. Verizon offers an online page on their website that allows you to enter the phone number and it will simply not ring on your phone any more. There are other ways to do it as well but this is usually the easiest. You might need to negotiate the price and it's included free in some packages such as the combo I have. Works really well for me.

Just got a call from this number.  Woman on other end sounded like very casual, like she was surprised someone answered the phone, asked for Mrs. xxxx (not my name).  Told her she had the wrong number, sounded like she wanted to say something more, but I hung up.  ID said Beverly, MA.

I got the same call.  When I asked them to.send paperwork for me to.fill out, they hung up.

Just got this call.  I don't usually answer unknown out of area numbers, BUT a FAMILY MEMBER with a 978 area code cell IS IN SURGERY TODAY and I thought it was family calling.

Turns out it is some SPAM "Electricity Provider" calling to try and SWITCH me to another provider.  He said the name so fast, I didn't catch it.  When I angrily DEMANDED he take our name/number OFF of his calling list, he began to ARGUE with me about it!

I ended the call and called my electric company to report the call and have them mark our accounts as "Do Not Switch."

If this "service provider" is legit then WHY are they ALLOWED to call us if we are on the DNC List??

SOUNDS like a good idea, BUT, in reality, it doesn't help much.

I Have TWO call blockers and block between one and 4 numbers DAILY; the SCAMMERS just keep changing the SPOOFED numbers they use and try again.  One blocker is FULL; the other is pretty close to it.

I think there needs to be a REVOLUTION in phone technology.  How about a phone system that you can program as to what calls you will ACCEPT, and all others will be automatically BLOCKED by default?  Perhaps you could have a PIN number or some other 'code' that you could generate on a need-to-have basis to give out for one time usage to only carefully vetted callers.  Then if someone VIOLATES your trust by 'sharing' that code, you could legally GO AFTER them with FINES, LAWSUITS, etc.  That would stop these SCUMBAGS in their TRACKS.

Claimed to be from NSTAR to choose which supplier of energy I would use.  That I was not going to save money come January.  I said no.  Got argumentative.

Things are being worked on, check with the news on the FTC website. Until then, call blockers are the best bet. Unfortunately, criminals will never obey any laws and then the foreign ones are not going to stop no matter what either.  Nothing is a clear cut solvent here.
