Duke Energy.  It wasn't a scam, I really had forgotten to pay...  I looked up my account after I received the message. Maybe scammers spoof this # as well, but as other's have said, not I am not a scammer for saying this... and the real Duke Energy does definitely use this #

I don't know why everyone is so worked up! They attempt to let you know something via phone first. Why pay for postage and paper and waste paper if they don't have to?  Why is everyone so indignant? How can it be a scam they don't ask you for anything and just tell you to call the Duke Energy # that is the actual Duke energy #.... Go off grid if you don't want the services you use

What can I do to protect myself against fraud?

Never share your personal information, including birthday, Social Security number or banking account information.
Never wire money to someone you don’t know – regardless of the situation. Once you wire money, you cannot get it back.

Do not accept offers from anyone, including those claiming to be Duke Energy employees, to pay your bill or provide any other service for a fee.

Don’t assume the name and number on your caller ID are legitimate. Caller IDs can be spoofed.

Do not click links or call numbers that appear in unexpected emails or texts – especially those asking for your account information. If you click on a link, your computer could become infected with malware, including viruses that can steal your information and ruin your computer.

Occasionally, Duke Energy MAY call you to discuss your account. If we do, we will provide you with information that only you and Duke Energy would know in order to validate that our call is legitimate. If, after receiving the information, you are uncomfortable providing personal information by phone, or if you believe the call is a scam, hang up and call the company directly at 800.452.2777.

Duke Energy customers who have delinquent accounts receive multiple notifications from the company over the course of several weeks prior to electric service disconnection – never just a single notification one hour before disconnection.
Duke Energy never asks or requires customers who have delinquent accounts to purchase a prepaid debit card to avoid electric service disconnection. Customers can make payments online, by phone, by automatic bank draft, by mail or in person.

If you’re concerned there may really be a problem with your power, contact Duke Energy by calling the number listed on your monthly bill.

...you haven't heard of scammers spoofing numbers.  Doesn't hurt to be aware of this!

Yes I understand this.  The phone call said to call the # on my bill, nothing more.  They didn't ask for anything

obviously I've heard of # spoofing, I'm on this site because I use it. I report them and am the first to paranoid as well.  But for a scam to be a scam from a spoofed # they would ask you for something. As I have stated above and all the other people have stated they don't ask for anything, They ask you to call the Duke Energy #.  They don't provide a number to call.  There is not one response on here of someone actually being asked or being attempted to be scammed on this # on this thread.  Just assumptions. I can confirm it was Duke Energy who called ME today.  Of course people should be aware of spoofed #'s as well. But the purpose of this tread is to let people know the experience they had with this phone #.  THIS WAS DUKE ENERGY THAT CALLED ME FOR SURE I JUST TALKED TO THEM!!! By calling # on my bill.  Which was the only # they suggested I call when they called me. And it wasn't collections related at all, I didn't owe them anything..

I keep getting phone calls from this number why and who is this.

This number has been calling for several days now.

It might be a third party contracted by Duke.  Annoying they don't leave a useful message.  I called back and got a recording advising me to call Duke's regular customer service number.  I did and they said they wanted to let me know the amount my (equal) payment (plan) would be this year.

Probably some form of legal CYA or regulatory requirement.

Call from this #  left message,  said if you are and said my full name, press 1, If you aren't press 2. I pressed one and said
That is not a valid answer.  No idea what it is about,  my bill is paid in full,  mailed it last week

Do not call this number back! Fraudulent!  Call the number on your bill first.  I have been with them a long time and they are warning customers about the scam.

It is Duke Energy.  I googled this # the first time they called me today.  Since my account is in good standing and I'm paid in full, I decided to go ahead and answer when they called again 2 hours later.  It was a recorded message telling me what my equal monthly billing amount will be for this year based on last year's usage.  It is definitely not a scam call, at least it wasn't for me.

I have had a number of calls from this # and I do NOT owe duke energy money... not even a client. SCAM
