cell phone companies often assign a generic number when a foreign cell phone is roaming, it is only for the billing purpose and to be able to access the long distance network, it is a phantom number that is created, the call is made, billed then the number no longer existed and will be re used by another client.  this happens when the local foreign cell provider can not communicate your number to the network or is not a valid format

I have been getting harassing phone calls at all hours of the day and night from this number.  Last night two calls, one at 1:11AM and one at 1:15AM, I unplugged my phone after that so I could sleep.  Today that same number called me twice again at 10:05AM and 10:07AM.  This has to be stopped.

When I called the number back the message was from the phone company with the tone and the message saying "The number you have called is not valid or is not in service."  Every time they call there is loud head banging music in the background with people laughing and talking.  My husband answered the phone last night the second time and after a minute they hung up on him.

Actually three calls, two on Jan 26, the last on Feb 1. All from family vacationing in Cancun on the days received and perhaps assigned as a temporary phone number. The timing of all three of these calls is consistent with when we were at the Cancun airport. All other calls during the vacation week logged as the correct phone numbers.

Do you seriously think scammers and telemarketers read this forum? Vent your anger at your congressman, perhaps on his or her voice mail.

Marbury,   I don't mean to sound like I'm argueing,  but the scammers and telemarketers do in fact read this board.  Most of the time they will hide in the background and just monitor how people are reacting to their scams.  Sometimes though,  they will crawl out and do a little shilling or post downright slanderous post to defend their unwanted calls......However,  I do understand your point about venting in a more appropriate way.....

Got a call at 830 pm and then the next high at 330am and was pissed but by the time I got to my phone I had missed the call. I was really ready to yell at someone!!!!

Our son called us from Cancun from 2 different cell phones and this number came up.   His first call, got disconnected.  Needless to say I was pretty upset when I tried calling this number back and it says it is a non working number.

My grandpa just called and it came up unavailable but we picked it up and he is in cancun Mexico so that was the area code we discovered

This is really freaky.  They called twice, about two minutes between calls.  I didn't answer because it's a weird looking number.  After reading all the posts I am now concerned because my son and daughter-in-law are currently in Riviera Maya outside of Cancun.  I wonder if they are trying to reach me...but if it was really them, they would have left a message and this number left no message either time.  Very weird.

My daughter-in-law just texted me....those 2 calls WERE from them in Riviera Maya!  No idea why she didn't leave a message except those calls cost 50 cents a minute.

I got a call from this number when I called my sisters cell phone while she was on vacation in Cancun. (she didnt answer) Someone called me back from this number and said that they just missed a call from me.

Just called and hung up.  Couldn't understand voice in background.

Haha.  Same thing here.  My stupid and insecure ex told our 4 kids that he was going to Texas when he actually took his girlfriend to Cancun.

This is the number that appears on the phone, when you call from a cell phone from Mexico to the US
There is nothing scary or non kosher about it. It is just a conversion of the American Cell # When dialed from Mexico

It shows up as unavailable.  The person is heard saying my name, as if on a speakerphone then mumbles and I can't make out anything else.  The call only lasted about 7 seconds.

My brother was vacationing outside of the US and his phone carrier temporarily assigned him this number. Turns out its probably been assigned to hundreds of different people over the years.

I also got a call from that number, it was my son saying he arrived in Cancun
