These Yellow Pages people called my office multiple times in July. I talked to my boss about it and he told me to decline their offer. I did just that. The next time they called I told them we were not interested. Since the were trying to "renew" us, they told me they were going to transfer me to another department to verify some stuff and they would put in our request to not renew. I was transferred and thats when they started recording. I answered their questions, then at the end they said something about mailing us an invoice. I thought since they were trying to renew us that this invoice was from a previous ad or something. I said yes they could mail us the invoice. Fast forward to 6 months later, they played my boss the second half of the conversation in which I verified their info. I was dumbstruck! I told my boss exactly what happened and he told their "collections manager" that he would not be getting a dime from us. I feel so stupid for having fallen for this scam! I offered to give my boss the money to pay them because I felt so bad. He would not accept it. He has refused to pay them any money and he has hired a lawer. Their collections manager was extremely rude and lied repeatedly about many things. I even tried to call and explain my side to him and he was very rude to me telling me nothing I say is going to make a difference and it's all my fault that my boss is being sent to collections. I hope these people are stopped soon.

They will send it to their in-house collections department.  They will not take you or your boss to court.  They know its a scam.  They know you would win if you fought it in court.  They make that threat to scare you or your boss into paying.

Your boss almost certainly already had a lawyer for the company.  He won't need to go to court, so the lawyer won't cost anything beyond what he gets for other company business.

The scammers are slick.  They operate from mobile phones and move often.  Or they call from foreign countries that do not take scamming Americans as a crime.  They will not be caught.

Don't pay it.  If you pay they'll bill you for a renewal, probably less than a year from now.  If they call again hang up on them.

Show this thread to your boss.  Maybe it will help her understand the scam.

Got a call from what the CID said was "Yellow Book" a couple days ago. I did not answer and they did not leave a mesage on the answering machine. I wonder if this is the same scam being run by different people or maybe the same scammers using a different name. Das machts nicht. This is not a business and they will never speak to a live person here. Or maybe they want to sell $500 phone book subscriptions...

I got scammed last yr too!!! They said they were from the collection agency and I didn't want to have bad credit and they are at it again.  Another bill different state.  Now from NY...They trick you in saying Yes to anything and falsifiy the tape and make it sound like you agreed.  A verbal agreement is not legal...I've been dealing with this so called company this week.  Freaked out again to just read that a lot of people are being scammed and to NOT pay and I WILL NOT

I'm going through the same thing right now that others have posted about. Got the bill for 499.00, got a more recent bill adding legal fees and interest. Had several calls recently from the "pre-legal" department. I had my lawyer send them cease and desist letters. My question for anyone on here is this - Do they ever stop? Has anyone gotten a collection agency letter, or a court summons? Just wondering how far it goes?

Yellow Book is a legitimate company. I work for them and was just scanning all these posts trying to help one of my customers who got scammed by a company called Yellow Pages Prime. But, word to the wise, deal with phone book reps in person, not on the phone.

Simple fix, at least on my end. I called MY phone company (AT&T)  and asked them about this, they indicated it was a way for the scam artist to add money to your bill and then try to get you to pay it. The lady at AT&T suggested that a "block" be put on my phone bill so NO one could add or delete ANYTHING unless I personally authorize it. Situation eliminated!
Calls continue to this day, when I hear "yellow pages" I just hang up.
