I don't know how I got it, but sure enough a popup with numbers and a website appeared the other day. I End Tasked it and began to search for any info on popup scams. I found this website and thread, skimmed along for a solution until finding your link for removal. GREAT it worked!
I don't get anymore calls about the Microsoft scam ever since getting a blocker, so now I can get on with the important things in my life!
    Thanks 800notes!!!

Got a message on my computer to call 888-382-6911. I fell for it and they had access to my laptop for 15 minutes. They said they were MS techs, and tried to get me to download software. I refused and turned the laptop off.

I've been getting those calls for quite a while.  They seem to have slowed down.  The latest one I received is a voice mail saying, "license key of my Microsoft windows has expired, to activate it.." and the female left a number.  I'm guessing its fraud.  No accent with the woman's voice though.  It's a first of this kind for me.

So my wife died several years ago. I still keep her cell phone active to use as a hotspot if my internet goes down. about 2 years after she passed I got a call on her cell phone from Microsoft tech support. My wifes computer is sending them a message that it has a virus. The call went something like this:

No, its not sending you anything.
(heavy indian accent) Yes it is.

Yes we are interrupted 1 or 2 times a week bye this SCUM, shut down the modem and computer (force off by holding the button until the comp shuts down), Thanks to the scum that brought us NAFTA now Windows 10 has a Third World back door open at any time they want to try to scam you out of $300.00.

Seriously?  NAFTA is to blame?  Something that happened, what like somewhere around 15 years ago is to blame for Windows 10?  Man, you really need to go back on your medications, or at least start buying American tinfoil instead of that Chinese stuff they sell really cheap at Walmart.

I've never had one from Toronto, but have had a number of calls from the other side of the world.  They get very pushy and one time the supervisor came on the phone and made threats.  I know that Microsoft doesn't phone you, but try and convince these people of that.  I now have a new thing I do when it comes to phone calls.  If the number is an 800 number, or its an area code or phone number I don't recognize, I let the call go to voice mail on my cell or the answering machine on the landline.  And, UNDER NO circumstances will I push any buttons on the phone, just because some unknown person/number asks me to.

Why are you replying to a 7-year old post? Do you honestly expect that person to see your reply? And did you use this website properly by posting in the thread that called you?
