We just had one of these phone calls from a V12140255330006.  I don't think I'll be able to report this number to the No Call List, as there are too many digits.  This was a live caller with a heavy India accent, who kept asking for Beeth.  She could hardly speak English.  I told her there's no one here by that name.  Recently we've had tons of calls from bill collectors asking for people who have never lived here.  It is REALLY upsetting.  This new way of getting past the no call list is more than bothersome.

If you had read the thread you would know that the number is not a phone number, and therefore you have nothing to report to the DNC list.

Read the post by Pat Kelley and you will understand.

V01041701360082 I get them multiple times. I reported this to the FCC today. Put it in a box for other information since it doesn't fit the phone number boxes. This is illegal and harassment. So I put this number on facebook for the public to see. I do this to lots of telemarketers and scammers.

All my V numbers are Duct Cleaners.  They've been calling for over 5 years.  They've never stopped....

    The number is scammers' code-
V-01-04    (170) 136-0082. the first four digits are the date. January 4th. The last part is the phone number that (didn't) really call you. From what I've read it's an accounting code that the scammer who phones you uses. If he cons you out of money, that phone number is his code to get paid by the head crook. I've gotten these calls as well. If you see a "V"-something on your caller ID - DON'T take the call.

This is great info folks - thanks!  I get these calls as well.

I also get calls from "Unavailable"

Can anyone shed any light on what those calls are?  I don't answer them because I don't answer any calls I can't identify, and they never leave a message - but I can't block them which ticks me off!  I am on the do not call list in Canada but clearly it isn't doing me any good, as I seem to be getting a lot of scam calls from the U.S.  :(

I am assuming these "Unavailable" are one of those - another way of getting around having to disclose either their company name or number.... blocking anything to identify themselves....  I don't have bill collectors chasing me either, so it's not that!

They are available behind their computers and phones. Unavailable is just one of those predictable tricks the turds employ.

here's a new one that they have been using. 90784 in the caller ID.  it is not a zip code and the first 3 numbers are the area code for Alaska and 784 is for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which split from 809. the first call was some one with an India accent and after I told them to stop calling because I was on the do not all (they were selling diabetes  medications) I started getting calls and when I'd pickup it would automatically respond with a generated response of "goodbye" and hang up.  now I just ignore it.
I ignore the "private number" ID's.

Glad I found this forum. I keep getting a call from a blocked ID and the only ID that shows up is 14331. I am in Northern California and I have found nothing in Google that tells me who they are. I don't answer.

Seems nowadays I get more of these telemarketing/scam calls than I do legitimate calls from friends/family.  I wish regular phones gave you the option to accept or decline a call like cell phones do so you can disconnect the call without having to answer or waiting for it to go to the answering machine.  For now, I push the Talk button on my cordless phone and then immediately hit the Off button.  Don't believe it's making a difference because I keep getting the V calls, but I don't have to wait for the machine to get it.

We never had a problem with our old number, but since moving and obtaining a new phone number, we are harrassed by bill collectors and quick loans.   Most are using the V numbers and I can't block them and they won't stop calling.  In the last 2 weeks, our the range of calls per day has been 7-26.   When we first moved into this home in October, we had some calls and a few rough days.  But lately, it has become horrible.  I'm not sure anyone cares either.

Well, as explained before, the "V number" isn't a phone number, it is a text string from their dialing system.

But you don't need to block the calls, you need to learn the law.  You can make them go away, or at least collect money from them if they refuse, and then a judge will make them go away.

Come back here and ask if you have questions, but read the site linked above first.

I have found that if you call the actual phone number on the caller ID, you get a recording telling you it's a telemarketer and you can press 1 to opt out. They promise to remove your number within 72 hours.
