Caller ID shows "V"+ a whole bunch of digits

I know by now that any call from a "V" plus digits ID is a spoofed number from a scammer. I have received calls from totally different numbers, one after the other, that have the identical V+digits ID.

These calls are quite frequent.  I call them :V-numbers".  It is 2022 and they are still coming.
I believe they are generated by an auto-dialer system - probably easily purchased and used by several nuisance calling organizations and individuals.
I'm not sure what exactly the "V" stands for.  Our caller ID only displays 15 characters so what I see is the letter "V" followed by a 14 digit number.
If you look closely at the numeric portion of the caller ID, you will decypher it as a time stamp.  An example:  V31716320800104 where "317" = March 17th; "163208" using the 24 hour clock = 4:32:08 PM and I believe the next two digits, in this case "00" represent fractions of a second and the final three digits "104" may be an identifier or part of an identifier so the calling "agent" can be identified should he/she actually make contact and make a sale.
Reporting these calls to State and Federal authorities seems to have decreased the volume of calls significantly.  You may also wish to contact your phone provider and complain.  These calls should be easily identified by phone service providers and stopped.

Wow!  You are amazing!  You came to the exact same conclusion that has been posted probably 50 times in this thread so far!

You didn't really think they'd bother to read any of the other posts in this thread, did you? :-)

It's very similar to writing a comment on a newspaper article after reading just the title.

I have Vonage (VOIP) phone.  I can delete and block the numbers just by clicking the delete on my phone.  I love it.  When I get these I just push the delete button.  We have long ago run out of spaces on our blocked list.  So I go to FCC online and make a complaint on the number.   I get anywhere from 3-5 a day.  What ever you do don't call the number back and don't answer under any circumstances.  Stay safe.

Boy, you must have been gone fishing for quite a while and lost all track of time.  "Going Insane!" made their post over 10 years ago and it is doubtful that they will ever see your reply.

I disagree with the V numbers.  Our landline number has been spoofed by scammers.  We now get multiple calls a day from people calling our number back...that we never initiated.  I always let the calls go to voicemail.  I few moments ago I received an expletive-laden and threatening voicemail.  I went from zero inbound calls a day on that landline to approximately 5 per day.  The majority of the caller IDs have the V with either a number or a person's name.  These people are calling me because they are ticked off.  This is not robocalling into my landline.  Anyway, I have now changed my outgoing voicemail to ask people to block the number and I have filed a complaint with the FCC.  Do not know what else I can do.

You are confusing the V portion.  This forum thread is about calls with V and a bunch of numbers after that V.  The V calls you are getting mean "Verified" as required by the new Stir/Shaken law.  Your V only has the 10 digit phone number or the CNAM name.  Two completely different things.

That is not the same as the original topic began, here this might help explain the V info your getting:

I have actually taken pictures on my cell of the V #'s as they're coming up on my landline.  No one on the other end says anything.  So now I say "this number is being recorded and reported".
Big deal! Same calls, number slightly changed!

The landing page for any phone number is the first post. There are no instructions there saying to go to the last page for the latest info. The only instruction is “Read comments below about nnnnnnnnnn. Report unwanted calls to help identify who is using this phone number”.

800notes should add a helpful comment on how to view the latest reports, or change the landing page to the latest in the thread. Until this happens to reduce the number of replies to old posts, such replies will continue at the same level.
