I believe UNAVAILABLE is displayed on peoples accounts that have indicated they do not want their phone number shown on the recipients caller ID.
Seems like a good idea for a scammer, not to have their phone number available for you

"UNAVAILABLE" is usually what a call recipient's CID shows when the caller uses *67 to hide their number, which can also show up as “Private” or “Blocked” when reading on caller ID, depending on the service provider's name usage. Has nothing to do with the "V"+ a whole bunch of digits, as the topic of this thread is about.

I had two V calls around 8:30 am and didn’t answer the first but the message was from my doctors office and the second call I answered and it was also about a change in a medical procedure. I usually let these V calls go to voicemail and will continue to do so but just wanted to share that they are not all scammers.

There is a call blocker for land lines that blocks "V" numbers and names or words, area codes, exchanges and call curfew. Just blocking a number only helps a little. Repeat numbers are rare.

Recently, my phone company added (V) just before the phone number that shows up in caller ID to show me that the number being displayed has been (V)erified as the actual number from which the call is originating.

Go back a page an read a little, as the "new" protocols from service providers is just a way to satisfy the stir/shaken laws. Doesn't necessarily mean the number is really the actual caller's number. They can still spoof the number and show as "verified".

I get these on my home phone number, usually only those I know also. According to Cox.net, if it has a V before the phone number, it is verified by them.  Not sure about other carriers.

Does this action stop the calls?

I have one similar on my call list from last June (2021) and when I open the call log to see details the actual number is a local exchange and looks to be legitimate, but the name on it (as if I had entered in my contacts has that V + about 19 numbers follow. (None of them are the number that came with it). Wish I knew as it is very weird.
