If it blocks your IPhone when it connects via WiFi, then the most likely you do use VPN (could be an anonymizer app).

The only suggestion to get the IP on your iPhone is this-open your web browser and go to http://www.whatsmyip.org/ -it SHOULD tell you what IP you are currently using. I use it all the time.

I used the website suggested by @CelticDragon and learned the following:
the IP Address shown for my PC is 74.***.***.***
the IP Address shown for my iPhone is 54..***.***.***
I retried the iPhone with Cellular only, and the IP Address was the same
I retried the iPhone with WiFi only and the address was the same...

The iPhone IP Address translates to Seattle, WA, and I am in New York City... Clearly, something unexpected is happening on my iPhone.
The WiFi Settings show the correct LAN WiFi IP address, with DNS of 209.18.47.61 & 209.18.47.62, which are TWC Road Runner addresses.

http Proxy was set to Auto; I turned it off, renewed the Lease, and tried again.

Now the iPhone can get to 800Notes...
I am guessing it was the AutoProxy, but I don't know how or why it was set that way.
In fact, with Proxy set to "off" on the iPhone, it now shows the 74.***.***.*** IP Address.

So, this seems resolved for now, and I have some homework to figure out why the iPhone WiFi Proxy was set to Auto.

    Thank you!!

It is not a good idea to post your private IP addresses on any public forum such as 800notes.  It provides hackers with an invitation and a challenge to see if they can break into your devices and steal private info.

I have reported your comment to Admin with hope they can edit out the IP’s.

You're blocking one of the more popular VPNs. Not cool to make people be less safe to use your otherwise valuable site....

Ever stop to think that maybe the Admin doesn't want people using Virtual Private Networks on this site? Use of VPN does NOT necessarily make you any safer. Admin's site, admin's rules-that's all there is to it.

    >>> Use of VPN does NOT necessarily make you any safer. <<<

Except for the fact that you included the word "necessarily," I would have to take issue with you there.

If you ever use a "guest network" at a hotel, restaurant, or coffee shop, I would always recommend using a trusted VPN. This may be the only way you have of ensuring that your over-the-air (or even wired) communications are encrypted and are not subject to snooping.

    (1) Many WiFi guest networks have "passwords," but after you log in, your messages are often completely unencrypted between your computer and the WiFi router. (In other words, you send the password over the air once and you are in, without any WPA or WPA2 encryption, or even the inferior WEP encryption.) Using a VPN solves this problem by encrypting your communications between your computer and the VPN server, which includes the vulnerable path between you and the WiFi router.

    (2) Even if the guest network is a wired network, you have no way of knowing whether there is a packet sniffer somewhere behind the wall socket you plug your cable into or whether the network is configured properly. The use of a VPN at least protects you from local threats to monitor and break into your computer.

    (3) There are thieves at coffee shops and in hotels (or at least in places near them) who set up their own networks that look legitimate, but are simply honeypots to catch unwary travelers. The network you log into may be one of these. In this case, all of your communications are subject to being spied upon by a packet sniffer. Using a VPN would either make connection to such a network impossible or at least ensure that your data couldn't be read out by the packet sniffer.

Of course, the VPN provider has to be trusted, because all of your communications pass through and are unencrypted by the VPN system on the leg of the journey between the VPN and the server you are communicating with.

There is another reason independent of this web site that may explain why you cannot use your VPN. When I bought a phone from a certain carrier (which shall remain nameless), the VPN was completely disabled by the carrier (including communications on both the carrier's Internet service and on WiFi, if I recall correctly). This was true even though there was still a page of settings for "VPN" available on the phone itself, and instructions on how to use it in the phone's printed manual!

So before you blame 800notes for not accepting VPN connections, at least make sure that your carrier hasn't shut that service off in your phone.

Finally, if nothing else works, you can set up a computer in your home as a VPN server. However, explaining how to do this is way beyond the scope of the present discussion, and it still won't help you if the carrier has turned off the VPN client feature in your phone.

The person didn't explain the situation very well. All I am saying is that maybe the admins have a reason for blocking VPN-nowhere in my post did I blame 800notes. Use of VPN depends on the situation, and, as this was not stated, it's speculation as to what was implied.

It's certainly hard to disagree with that.  I just thought it was worthwhile to indicate that VPNs have legitimate uses, and that added security (with a trusted VPN) is one of them.

That is true ANonie...heck, I use VPN frequently with my friend. I was never getting after 800notes about it (or was that to the person I posted to?)
