I am from California and I heard the same spiel this morning. I had a strange voicemail and I called back the number, expecting it to be a quick call. I was running late to my mani/pedi appointment, thank goodness! Otherwise I wouldn't have the nerve to say what I said next: after 30 minutes, I cut "special agent Brian martinez" off and explained that many people online are saying that this type of phone call is a scam. I googled the (206) phone number while he was on the line. I just simply don't have time for this nonsense. He was very repetitive, scolding, and quite frankly a waste of time. I wonder what happens next... All US citizens should trust we live in a free country. This is not a third world mexico where dea agents will extort and scare us innocent people. --Julie

I forgot to mention the person I spoke qith, special agent brian, had a very thick hispanic accent. He provided me with a case number, his badge number, and another number to call. It seemed very fishy to me, as if he didn't have an agenda and had all the time in the world to scold me. I would imagine a real agent would speak briefly and concisely. I dont know how on earth people fall for this crap, but I just wanted to pay it forward since this website helped me confirm my suspicions this morning.

I was just called from a VA number, 804 723-9741. He said his name was Special Agent Anthony Williams. Badge #N2259. He gave me a case # DEA2014, and said my name was gotten from the Dominican Republic and used to smuggle drugs. A package was intercepted, and I would face felony charges, or pay a $900.00 fine. While he had me on hold, I googled the info that he had given me and read all about this scam. I told him that I knew it was a scam, and that I actually new a true DEA officer here in the Carolina's and I would be in touch with him. The man then told me that I was a [***] [***], and that he didn't care if I knew [***] Obama. At that point, I hung up. I'm wondering how he knew my name, and number? This guy talked with an accent from maybe the Dominican Republic.

I got the call from "Lawrence Mathews" DEA special agent claiming I would be going to jail if I didn't pay them $2500 within an hour. While on the phone with them, I looked up "Lawrence Mathews/DEA" and up popped this site. Thanks everyone for reporting before me!
I too had just about the same thing happen to me I also said the same thing to them as you did but they said DEA agent would be here in 30 min , what they don't know is i called police and reported them . The number they called from Is 1800241-9364
Guess what Shelley? I get these calls every day! It makes me want to puke! It is definite terrorism!! Why doesn't anyone do something about it? Don't ever let these SOB's talk to you like this again! Get a whistle and blare it in their ear. Or just politely hang up! No one should have to be insulted by this trash! Or just don't ever answer your phone unless you know who it is!!! All these crazy people calling someone should be stopped!! PERIOD!! Is this still the United States of America??? DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE who talks to you like that. All they were trying to do was scare you in to sending them some money!! They are most likely from a foreign country trying to scam you like 100's of other scam artist's! My phone rings off the hook every day with this kind of garbage. I thought about getting a cell phone! Until I found out they can get that number too! Good luck to you. I hope you never answer the phone again and let some crook talk to you like that!
GOOD FOR YOU!!! They are so stupid the cussing out doesn't even phase them!! You should have called Special Agent Ryan Harris of the 9th division drug investors in LosAngeles Cal. If it was the non correct number you should have looked up the number for the drug investors in LosAngeles Cal. And called them and ask if a Special Agent named Ryan Harris worked for them. If they said no, You should have told them what took place. It is illegal for someone to do that to you, or anyone else! Glad you cussed them out though! LOL. It is what they deserve!!!
