I just came across one of these IRS threads. The odd part is that one of the most recent talks about it being similar to the other posts. But in this case the telemaggoter called to say their computer was infected.

Three robocall voicemail messages left on the same day within 3 hours. The real IRS does not flood you with calls like an impatient teenager.

"...record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. I am Officer Julie Smith from Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my position is 4155061297. I repeat, it's 4155061297. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Good bye and take care."

    "Officer Julie Smith"

    "....hotline to my position."

They just can never get the lingo right.   That and why is it everybody in India is named "Smith"?

Received call 11/10/14, which appeared as: 800-829-1040 on phone ID. The 800 number belongs to IRS, however they left, 571-292-8457 as a callback number. The message left was a (male foreign sounding voice) saying I needed to respond to the  "five criminal offences in my name" and I needed to get info regarding "the current lawsuits against me" and left the number 571-292-8457 as the call back. However, when I called the 571 number back the person hung up! WTF?

Chris C--- who teaches introductory computing to seniors at 8:15 AM on Friday mornings has this to say: "Whether it is by phone or by e-mail, if you think it is bad now, it is going to get worse."

I write this tongue-in-cheek. Still, I have to wonder. If the overload of spam/scam wireless communications gets out of hand, will people feel obliged to go back to writing letters?

Call from 925-953-8815 (Walnut Creek, CA).  Message left by woman with accent saying she is from the treasury dept.  Said I needed to call back or have my lawyer call back about this important legal matter.

Just received one of the calls to my 80 year old father in law.  Left voice mail and said the words "criminal investigations" about 5 times.  We I called back I got an answering machine first, the second I got a real person, who had very broken English.  He asked my father in laws age and said they had the wrong party.  Wow.

Recorded messages exactly like these have been showing up on caller ID as from 934-563-3681 and saying you need to call 210-418-5058 immediately to stop the lawsuit. Yawn...yeah right....
