Six Sure Signs of an Advance-Fee Loan Scam

The whole point of obtaining a loan is that you accept money because you're broke and the lender is not. The whole point of demanding a "documentation fee", "first installment", "security deposit", or "verification formality" is not to give you a loan but take whatever you can spare.

It would greatly help future potential victims to report under the threads for numbers used by your scammers. Your story is not unique and did not need a new thread out here.

I received a call similar to Debbie's just today. A guy with a very thick Middle Eastern/Indian/Pakistanian accent who claimed to be "Mike Davis" was supposedly calling for National Cash Advance. At first, I thought he was saying "Nashville Cash Advance".

He told me that congratulations were in order because I'd been approved for an $800 loan. Before he went on about the "easy monthly payments", I said, "Suppose I don't want to pay it off monthly? What if I just want it for a month? How much would it be to pay the whole thing off?" "$852, if you pay it off by June 15th".

What followed was a series of me asking him for the terms in writing and him talking about me "uploading $150.00 with a Ratification Voucher so we can confirm your balance". I was promised that the $150 was good faith month and would be refunded in minutes and the $800 would be in the checking account as well.

Of course, what he wanted was for me to go to the nearest CVS Drug Store and put $150.00 on an untraceable debit card and "trust" him. In spite of numerous requests that he simply email or fax over the terms of the loan, he actually expected me to believe that I'd get it "At your doorstep 48 hour after you've gotten your loan".

Needless to say, I hung on him and immediately found the main website for National Cash Advance. And yes - this is a scam that's been going on a long time.

What really amused me was the fact that he was using a 732 New Jersey area code and kept telling me he was in Florida. If anyone wants to call Mike Davis and screw with him, the number is (732) 703-9539. I tried to call him from my landline which is blocked. Each time, the call was picked up and hung up on. It wasn't until I'd called him back from my cell phone (which does not block) that "Mike" picked up the phone.

Sadly, I'm sure there are thousands of people who were desperate enough to need some kind of payday loan in the first place who have been hurt even more by these kinds of scammers.

I received a call and was told by a man with thick middle eastern accent that my loan was approved. I never applied for a loan so I was concern about identity fraud and someone was using my name to apply for a loan.  I asked when it was applied for and what information he had and the harder I pressed him the more evasive he got.  Eventually he was tired of answering questions and hung up.   3 calls from 3 different people today.

Some guy texted my phone saying that he is from national cash advance and said I was approved for a loan up to $5000 but would need my account info (witch I don't feel right given to someone I don't know) or he could send it thru western union but would need to pay a $200 loan fee and can't take it right out of the loan ..... Just seems like a scam to me

He promised me $5000 today if I went to Walmart to and sent money. Said the $5000 would be in my account in 15 minutes. A Gmail account on National Cash Advance letterhead. Answered the phone "hello" instead of the name of the company.

If you post under the phone number that called you, you will be helping other people who look up that number. Posting here will do little good as this thread will soon disappear.
