No, not Target, Walmart, Best Buy.....
The "businesses" they mention are the providers of the so called services, the $9.99 a month "Shipping Service" or the $39.99 a month "Credit Report" and such, that you wind up getting signed up for with no real easy way of getting out of in order to get your "free" prize.
That is why the report mentions you have to pay far more than the value of the so called prize.

Again, the big name chain stores are just as much a victim as the people duped by this scam.
That is why they do actively go after and sue the offenders when they find them.

The winners are Verizon, AT&T, and the others.  They refuse to block texts and spam calls due to the significant income received from the same.  There are many third party blocking apps, find the one you like and install it.   If you think this is usury chomp on this,  Verizon charges $2 per meg for bandwidth if you pay by the meg, which many customers do and they pay about .000027 cents per meg.  Sure the infrastructure does cost, but certainly not 1/2 million percent profit.  Our wallets are being sucked dry by the vampire wireless carriers.

Does this meanVerizon is behind some scams??

No, Verizon is not behind any of the scams.

Verizon is not a police department.  Neither is AT&T or TracPhone or any other cell carrier.  They'll all provide a cell phone to anyone who is willing to pay for it.  The people willing to pay for cell service include normal, honest people like you and me.  It also includes scammers.

Obviously, the US laws are so easy for these jerks.

If the US prison system like Russia, North Korea, Mexico or other South America prison, those jerks will stop or stay in labor prison for long time (with minimum or no cost from taxpayers) .

I think their prison systems(especially North Korea) are the "best" to keep these jerks out . It turns out their prison systems are quite simple .

"Pay as you go, and work if you want to eat"

If prisoners don't want to work, fine there's nothing wrong with it, but then there's no  food for you to eat ====> simple .

If those who assist scammer (like ATT, Verizon, etc....) put them all in the labor camp +===> problem solve

I received a payday loan text three weeks ago and it said if you don't want to receive these text messages type in STOP DNC, so I did.  OMG two minutes after I sent my cell phone didn't stop ringing and kept getting texts saying I was a approved for a loan - it went on for 10 days.  So just delete those messages don't type STOP it only spread your phone number out there.  So glad they are working on stopping these perverts.  Thank you!!!

If only the same liability could be applied against the text marketers as the telemarketing scams.
Now according to declaratory judgment, if these were telemarketing calls, the company selling the product would be held liable.

Luckily, with AT&T you can actually forward the spam text to their SPAM reporting number to report it, along with the number it came from.  You don't get charged for the texts used from submitting reports, and I believe you can even dispute the charge of the spam texts themselves if you happen to get charged.

So true. Never click on a link, in a text message. Could contain a virus.
