The judgement should have been upheld with a lien being placed on the defendants. Does anyone think a slap on the wrist and a "don't do that again" warning will stop them in the future? They need to be sent a stronger message by having to pay out of their pockets!!

You are so right. But I learned a long time ago when I worked in law enforcement that crooks have more rights than law abiding citizens. It was true then and it's still true today. Such a shame!!

I'm gonna assume you are a right-wing conservative. They are always saying they hate big-govt yet they create it. If you are not i will apologize now. It you are you deserve wrath. When they "convinced" their loyal brain dead supporters that federal regulations was evil, and such regulations threaten business thus if you love your job you need to support the republican party, many bought it hook, line and sinker. The only regulations trashed are ones that protected the consumer. Any companies that fled to foreign shores are in the manufacturing industry. They left to take advantage of slave wages and lobbied for NAFTA and GATT to bring their goods across the border duty free. Today you need you're lawyer on speed-dial anytime you purchase goods and services. Welcome to the "fine-print contract land."

Yes, place them in jail. Not the minimum security, (which to me, should not exist) but the 'drop the soap', 'live in fear for your life', type prison. Politicians, white collar criminals, should never be shown any mercy...they screw with us, and are protected by their peers.
Our lives, our children's lives, will never have a chance as long as there is no accountability. Everyone's life matters, EXCEPT CRIMINALS...They made their choice...we can still make ours.

You conveniently seem to have forgotten, Democrat President and Congress by the same, brought these into law.
We the People have lost control of our elected officials. Now is the time to really study these clowns that will be elected into office. Hope and change without any vetting by the voters, is a really bad idea.
Both sides contributed to this fiasco which has basically thrown the world and especially the US, into such chaos.
Would you marry a slacker just because they LOOK good or because (s)he is the next in line? Think. Otherwise, we all deserve what we get...
You hire an electrician, if they're any good you'll have no electrical problems.
You hire a politician, you get lip service...

What I found amazing was that they didn't have to pay the fine because they said they didn't have any money. Try that with your next Visa bill!

Our government is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too lenient with these felonious t u r d s who are basically psychopaths. Our planet doesn't need rubbish like this occupying its space. Just look at all of the scum living out their natural lives on death row in our nation's prisons. We as tax payers are forced to pay to keep these dirtbags living in a sheltered environment until they kick the bucket of natural causes. I think other countries have the right idea to deal with perpetual menaces of society and put out their lights once and for all!

    What's a replies to William
Actually William all of this became much worse due to technology. Cyberspace and identity theft go hand and hand. Automated dialing, spoofed phone numbers, case sensitive data being apprehended by tech savy thugs, technology has afforded criminals a whole new way of laying low and stinging fiercely. Certainly Bush was a piece of s&@$ of a president, but why is he to blame entitely for the onslaught of cyber criminals? The internet was around during Bush senior and Clinton's reign. Wanna blame them too? If an administration is "so heavily indebted" in preventing and nabbing these cyber criminals why hasn't Mr. Obama calmed the stormy seas? Because they can't. We can blame all we want, be p i s s e d off with the lack of proper leadership and hate the way convicted criminals can get an essential slap on the wrist for committing heinous crimes. Where in this garbage can of a world is there a corrupt free government? There isn't. Politicians, lawyers and CEO's make up some of the highest levels of flotsam in society.

    UNCLE BILLY replies to Julia
The problem with the ftc as pertains to the telemarketers is actually a flaw in the law as it is presently written. Only the us government has the authority to take formal legal action against the telemarketers. Individuals who are being bothered by these nuisance calls cannot bring suit against the telemarketers on their own. The fix is very simple. Change the law to permit us to bring individual legal actions against these bad boys. Allow us to bring consumer class actions or individual legal actions as one can do in many other consumer issues. Then we can release the hounds and it would not cost you much or maybe anything if you do it with a private law firm. Such consumer protection will not cost the us govt a darned penney. Let the individual consumers go get them. The bad guys have to pay the attorney fees for the good guys if they lose.  The good gus actually get a seat at te bargaining table. Now we do not.  Seems simple to me.

Yes, the truth is if there weren't plenty stupid people in the world (some of them have figured out to work a computer mouse) these scams wouldn't pay off and the vermin would have to move on or OMG "get a job"...

Sorry to poke your bubble, but it was candidate Ross Perot who warned against NAFTA and GATT and guess what? He's a republican.  Oh and BTW Democrat Willy the Weasel signed those agreements.

This scam sounds a lot like what "Direct Buy" did in 2014, except that they sent offers via U.S. mail, so complaints went to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service instead.  It was just a ploy to bring people to their locations to sign them up as members.  They had no tablets to give out (DB didn't promise iPads).
