- Jill K. Cooper| 1 replyI received a call from an unknown number, 052-797-777 but this number 8139956249 was given to call back. The gist of the call was that I was under investigation and if I did not respond the officers would come and get me and I would do hard time or die. The had the name and numbers of my brother and sister, and also the last 4 digits of my SSN. They also had my employer, and my work number because they tried calling there, but I did not answer.

- unknown| 1 replyI received several calls from both numbers (052-797-777 and 8139956249) They have been calling non-stop, they have also been contacting my oldest daughter and sister saying they are listed references when I would NEVER list either of them as a financial reference. They also called my work and my house phone, saying that there was a fraud case against me, which I know is completely untrue...
When I called the 813 number back, the man had a very thick arabic accent and was very rude and got very hostile with me after just a few seconds of speaking. I have had a few scam calls in the past and I googled this number and sure enough it shows up as another one...I am having the numbers blocked and I am going to contact ftc.org to report this issue...the more people that report these numbers the harder it will be for them.- Caller: 8139956249
- unknown 2 replies to unknownI got the same message basically saying that a friend used my name as a reference, and it was a fraudulent case. I know that just using someone as a reference, doesn't work like that. I had my face book acct. hacked several weeks back, these are probably the same ones. I hope they get caught.
- SheilaThis person called my cell phone, saying his name was Rudolph Jacob and that he was with the Resolution center, law and distribution, (that was the only part I could understand). That a friend of mine, (he mentioned her name) had used me as a reference and that it was fraudulent, and that if I didn't respond back to the phone number that I could be in a lot of trouble. I know that being a reference for someone is not a federal case. He also mentioned something about a case file. I tried to write down the words, I have this saved to voice mail on my cell. The number that he wanted me to return the call to was 813-995-6249, but when I looked at my missed call on my cell it come up as 052-797-777, which was pretty weird to me.

If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):
1. The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2. Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.
3. File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone. Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
4. File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov
5. File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)
By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors
By Leslie McFadden • Bankrate.com
Monday, Aug. 3
Posted 2 p.m.
Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry.
This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
The BBB offers these tips:
• Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
• Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
• File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
• File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you. - JoDee SmithThis is a total scam and they are just trying to get you to give information so that they can take money from you. DO NOT TELL THEM ANYTHING! There is NOTHING that they can or will do to you. Here is what my congressmen's office told me to do. Act as if you are recording the call. Tell them that this call is being recorded. State your name, the time and date and ask them to state their full name. Ask them the nature of their business with you, what United States company that they are representing. Also ask for the name and title of their supervisor. GIVE OUT NO and I repeat NO PERSONAL INFORMATION. They only have your name and phone number. They have no other information unless you give it to them. They can do NOTHING at all to you. Yes, the calls are annoying and the FBI tells me that they are ran through the internet so they are not able to track these clowns down. The calls will stop. They finally left me alone when I told them that they could do their worst, but they were not getting any money out of me. I also told them that the way we do this in the UNITED STATES is to send certified mail to my home address. Please do not fall for this. Call your local FBI office and report to them. They might not be able to do anything now, but I guarentee our government has the ability to track them down and stop them. They just need to be prodded often enough to take action.
These guys sound threatening, just remember, they have NOTHING on you and they don't know where you live. One voice mail that I have saved on my phone states that if I do not return their calls - Good Luck to me. Whatever!!!!- Caller: Department of Law and Investigation

- pattithis person called my house over and over non stop last night, saying he is with dispute resolution center and his name is neal johnson. I knew immediately that it was a scam because they tried this same stuff on me two months ago. I reported them to the Missouri Attorney General but they took no action that I'm aware of. I finally had to take my phone off the hook last night . When I got to work today, they called my Job and I chewed them out. I know the Kansas City Attorney General has complaints against them as well. I think they hacked into someones payday loan applications because of what they said the first time I dealt with them and all the info they have on thier victims. Someone needs to catch them!! The first time it happened they had me really upset but when I googled thier number I discovered they have been doing this to tons of people. I fear they will steal from my bank account. Todays call, they said they were doing a social security investigation. The first time they said it was an unpaid loan that I was being criminally charged for.

- MellyI received several harrassing calls from an hispanic speaking lady stating I owed $876. She said she was from the Department of Investigations. I told her to send me documents showing I owed this amount and she said I would have to get them from my attorney. The number that appears on my caller id is 5-297-7777. This clearly fraud and should be reported.
