I too receive calls from this number, but when we answer, no one says anything. I tried, too, to call the same number from a different line and heard a recorded message about removing my number by pressing 6 then dead air.

They called and asked for me by name.  I confirmed it was me and they said they needed my date of birth to begin the validation process.  I asked them what this was about before I gave out ant information. They said they could not give out any information until they could validate it was me on the phone.  That is when I hung up.
    • Caller: Did not give their name

Berks Credit & Collections, well known to break all Federal and State collection laws.  No doubt they have dinged your credit report already, they collect a lot of medical debt, not sure what else they collect.  But because they talked to you and because it is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid, they must now do this:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

They might not because they don't want you to know your rights, but in any case this should be your next step:

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

Ive been receiving odd phone calls from this number as well. This morning i got tired if the calls every other day so I called the number back. I got a recording, said press 6 to remove my number so i pushed 6 which took me to a operator. I told her to add my number to the DNC list, she asked if my name was Mary something, then thats when i found out whoever had this number before i switched companies is probably in credit debt and its a collector. Needless to say i told her i better not get anymore calls or will talk to my attorney

It's best not to press any buttons or try to talk to scammers. Just hang up and block. Calling back can result in more calls.

This number keeps calling and today asked for my date of birth and would not identify themselves saying they were calling about a private matter and due to security reasons could not say who they were.

I kept getting calls from this number, so today I decided to wait several seconds before I hung up. Finally, a woman says, "hello." She said she needed to confirm who I was before she gave me any info and asked for my date of birth, saying she would need that info before she could tell me what company was calling. I told her, "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" I told her I would not give such personal information to someone who wouldn't tell me who she was and what company from which she was calling. She then said "goodbye" and I hung up.
