- Number still out thereI received two phone voicemails the past week from 202-506-9461, obviously even with all the complaints filed and it is a known scam, nothing has been done about it since that number is still being used.
The caller had a very heavy accent and referenced a tax issue that needed immediate attention. - Frank in disguise| 2 repliesRobbie Ray called me asking for my attorney for a case against me. I stated that the IRS always send mail of actions against me. I ask for another paper to be sent. He said only one can be sent, in his heavy foreign accent. I asked who in IRS can I call. He said Michael Carter at 202-506-9461. I'm sure this is a fake and this web site confirms it. I always pay on time and in full so this phone call was suspect from the beginning. Arrest me if you can.
- Caller: IRS (supposedly)
- Slim replies to Frank in disguise| 1 replyThere is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first. - frank in disguise replies to SlimThank you, Slim. I've heard of these in the news.
- AbuvalaReceived a call from a man that claimed that they were coming to arrest me for unpaid taxes and that I needed to contact a criminal lawyer and if I couldn't make bail, I would have to stay in jail for 5 years. I am currently involved with an audit so I thought it had something to do with that. Scared me to death! I went to my accountant and he said it was a scam. Looked the number up and sure enough. The man on the phone had an Indian accent.

- JaneSame scam but new name. The guy's name was Officer Shaw or something in August. His name is Officer Smith now. This is the third time we got the IRS and jail threat from. It sounds like a machine generated message with my husband's name inserted into it. The first and today's had Indian / Pakistani / Middle Eastern accent, the second voice mail had no accent. We just ordered our Panasonic calling blocking phone. This number is going to the block list.

I suspect he is Indian with his heavy accent tho I could understand him as he slowly enunciated every word. Please call back or with your attorney of record to his hotline at the Tax Litigation Dept. no mention of IRS. Don't try to disregard this message.
Has anyone actually answered the call or call back to find out the real deal? Curious...- Caller: Tax Litigation Dept
- CWG40 replies to SushirayYes, a lot of people. These people are hard core Indian scammer/extortionists. The real deal is the are impersonating the IRS . I fyou call back they will start telling you that you are about to suffer all sorts of legal pain and deprivation, that you will be imprisoned and that local authorities will be coming in about half an hour to arrest you for some tax error or another.
However, if you will just send them some money by Green dot money pak (which is untraceable) the whole thing will magically go away.
And that's the real deal.
Don't call them back. Block their calls.
These calls are not random. They have all your financial information and a lot of personal information. They pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community. And anybody else the think is vulnerable.
If you call them back up and they sense any vulnerability they will start hammering you with calls.
