    Ha!  Good one.

To get back on subject - we have no elections coming up and the local tv news and newspaper have not announced that the (one-step-from-being-a-monopoly) utility company is conducting a survey.
I didn't answer my cell and they didn't leave a message. If they call landline there's no answer machine anyway.
Hopefully someday someone will make an app to just automatically kill any number that spoofs or maybe an app that will kill the number when I look at the phone and say 'die'.

I have received at least 5 calls this week from this number all talking about Iranian Warships attacking the U.S. It doesn't ask for a reply or money. It just hangs up. Can anybody tell me why these calls are made ? Is there some motive that leads to money or hacked data or something ? I am really sick of this crap !pollrsrch13

Called 9:29 AM  PST.  Robocall from something called Poll Research 13.  Basically a political poll put out by people who want the Keystone Pipeline constructed.  I answered all the questions.  Not opposed to polls as long as they are not trying to get personal information.

Robo call (202) 769-0477 recorded 24 February 2014 (Public survey call, "Iran war ships headed toward US, threatens to block oil in Persian Gulf")
    Caller ID: [unobserved]

'Public survey' robo call while I was on another call so I couldn't answer it. [ Aw, my loss  ;-) ]

They did leave a voicemail message, asking if I'm concerned about "Iranian war ships approaching the US"...Iran threatening to block oil in the Persian Gulf..." and a promise (or should I consider it a thread) "...we may call back later."

Go ahead surveyor, make my day.

Actually, I would like to hear from them to see what their agenda is, I'll post it here if they do call back and I can take the call.

Here is a transcript of the voicemail message they left:

[male voice:] "Are you concerned that Iran has sent its war ships towards the U.S. Coast and threatened to cut off oil  supplies from the Persian Gulf posing a direct threat to world will supplies. [long pause] This is the public survey call, we may call back later. Thank you."

Thanks to Google Voice ( www.google.com/voice ) you can hear this recorded robo call on my Spam Calls web page:

The VM said "This is a political call and we may call back later."
I say PHUQ YOU and EAT [***]..........now OR later.

Doesn't matter.  I've blocked the number through my phone service.  You got through the first time, A$$HOLES.  But, you won't make it through again using the same number.

When I see the area code is (202) that tells me the call is meaningless.  There's no reason at all to answer.  Therefore, I don't.  If the putz leaves a voice message, it is unceremoniously deleted without listening.

Yup - Catch 22: the number is probably not spoofed (FCC), and it is highly protected "political speech" (DNC) as far as I can tell. Told them to ssip ffo and gave them the big click. Failed to mention that an Iranian warship is likely to be a tramp steamer with 'panj gooz-goozu devoneh, va yek musalsal y chehar fashang.' (Koofteh!)

Caller ID just shows the number.  A very brief message is left which starts out like:  ....gasoline in the United States.  This is a public survey call.  We may call back later.  It would be nice if they decided to not call back later; but, they always do.

these jerks just keep on calling, you cant call them back to tell them to knock it off.
The national 'do not call' list is not working, this is the type of thing the government should be going after.
    SHUT THESE JERKS DOWN.

This is not a legitimate survey. They call first asking if you're concerned about high oil and gas prices in the US.  (Who isn't?)  Then make a statement that the Keystone Pipeline will lower them, following immediately with a question if they can pass on your support for the pipeline to President Obama.  This violates all rules of legitimate survey taking (which I took a semester course in at college).  You simply don't make an unsubstantiated statement and then ask for you to commit your support!  You can ask IF it would result in lower prices, would you support it?  But not the way they're doing it!  This is a self-serving scam survey by either a gas company or a political organization.  So I responded "no."  Then they repeated the same question!  I again said "no."  Then they asked if I was male, and I responded "yes", suddenly feeling like I just got trapped into giving a "yes" answer on their recording, which they could splice in after the previous question.

BTW, as a professional consultant who is currently studying pipeline issues, I can tell you that the probability of the Keystone Pipeline lowering oil and gas prices in the US is probably close to zero.  The pipeline would simply benefit the oil industry in being able to transport the oil from Canada to ports on the Gulf of Mexico for sale to other countries.  Along the way, these private Canadian oil interests would be using eminent domain rights granted to them by Congress to forcibly take privately owned land to place their pipeline.  And how many news stories have you heard where a pipeline ruptured and caused a disaster?  One just happened in western Canada a few weeks ago, exploding into flames, and wiping out an entire small town.  Why the hell should we tell Obama and Congress we support building a pipeline that benefits private oil concerns in Canada, forcibly takes private property from US citizens, and puts those same Americans and the environment at potential extreme risk?
