I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

The calls cannot be stopped.  However you can protect yourself somewhat by investing in a call blocker and not picking up on calls you do not recognize.  This scam originates in India and Pakistan.  As such the callers are beyond the reach of US law.

Same as above,  I let it go to voicemail as I didn't recognize the number and the message was the IRS was about to file a lawsuit against me and I needed to call back the number.  It got my heart racing a bit and then I looked up the number here and I feel better, though as above it makes me angry that there are scammers out there trying to rip people off.  I've blocked the number on my phone.

Phone call from 202-864-1183 claiming to be the IRS trying to reach me I hung up on them

Robocall left on landline answering machine.  Message claimed to be “from the IRS…” and that I was being sued.  Said to call 202-864-1183.  Needless to say, I didn’t call back.

Wow, 2 calls to the same landline on the same day.  I am “Just another human,” as above.  What a scam.

These people have called countless times and left harassing messages along with harasing my pregnant wife.  It would nice if someone could keep calls like this from happening.  Middle eastern male.  I asked how much do I owe the IRS and he quickly stated 15K.  I told him where he can put that 15K once the camel removed himself from the orifice he should place it.

got a call from 202-854-1183 claiming that they are the IRS and they are going to sue me.

Received a call stating they were from the IRS, and this was my final call and that I am going to be sued, to call the phone number 202-864-1183 Immediately. FYI it was left on my answering machine.

I just got a scam call.. Was little scared because it said the IRS was sueing me and it was their final attempt to reach me then I remembered what hr block taught me they will reach me by mail not phone.

Automated call claiming to be IRS asking to return a call to 202-864-1183. Stated the IRS was filing a lawsuit against us.

Received unwanted robocall....despite being on the No Call List.... from Caller ID "IRS Washington DC".  Recorded message said This is the IRS.  We have been trying to reach you.  This is your final notice....." at which point I hung up.
I wish there was a way we could file a lawsuit against THEM for annoying us.

I got the same call. I called them back and told them that I was going to call the AG and report them. The guy on the other end said "I don't care". I said you will care when the AG catches up with you. He said " F--- you, Hey do you want to s--- my c--k" !

Something needs to be done about these people. They are telling people that the IRS wants money from them or they will be sued and have their bank accounts attached.  While I knew they were not the IRS, I wonder how many people might be taken in by their scam ?

I just received a automated call saying they have been trying to reach me and the IRS is filing a law suite against me and to call 202 864-1183.  I don't remember who they said they were.

Answering machine had an electronic generated voice message that stated "This is the IRS informing you that you are the subject of a lawsuit by the IRS. It is urgent that you call us back at 1-202-864-1183 immediately to learn how you can avoid this action." Caller ID showed WSHNGTNZ1 DC, with the same number as stated in the message.
What a shame. Russia, China, Iran, Japan, Germany, the USA, and on and on have the technology to monitor your cell calls, home phone calls, email, and can access you PC in the middle of the night while you are sleeping to see just what you've been doing, but no one can catch these scammers who rake in tens of millions from unsuspecting victims each year. Sounds like there is a whole bunch of governments and their officials getting their pockets lined!
