- msratz replies to CStaffI have gotten the same calls for the past few days. They are threatening me with a law suit and when I asked for more information such as the date the payday loan was supposedly taken out, the amount, the account number it was deposited into, and the original payday loan company the loan was supposedly taken from they would not give me any details. When I told them to send me the information in writing they told me they could not do that and threateaned to come to my home and my place of employment. I was then told that I would receive a supeona in the mail with a court date. If this is happening to so many of us, how can we stop them??

- Press Release from Microsoft replies to David Geoffrey HarrisonMicrosoft warns of growing computer scam
If you get a phone call from someone wanting to help you fix a computer security "threat," hang up fast. The call is likely part of the latest scam targeting computer users.
Microsoft Corp. on Thursday released findings of a survey that found 15 percent of consumers in four English-speaking countries, including the U.S., have received the calls. Microsoft surveyed 7,000 computer users in the U.K., Ireland, U.S. and Canada; 15 percent of those surveyed said they had received such a call.
The scam works like this: Someone posing as computer security engineer calls people at home and warns they are at risk of a computer security threat. The scammers say they are providing free security checks and claim to represent legitimate companies; they use telephone directories to call their intended victims by name.
Of those who received a call, 22 percent were tricked into following the caller's instructions -- permitting remote access to their computer, downloading software code provided by the criminals or providing credit card information and making a purchase.
Of those who fell for the scheme, 79 percent suffered some sort of financial loss; 17 percent said they had money taken from their accounts; 19 percent reported compromised passwords and 17 percent were victims of identity fraud. More than half said they suffered computer problems as a result of the incident.
The average amount of money stolen was $875, ranging from $82 in Ireland to $1,560 in Canada. The average cost of repairing damage caused to computers by the scammers was $1,730 and a whopping $4,800 in the U.S.
The Guardian newspaper in Britain reported that the scheme has been around since 2008 but has been growing in scale in the past year. The Guardian said the scam is being run by call centers based in India.

- MEvansI just got a phone call from someone claiming to represent "Windows" who told me that there was a software that had attached itself through Windows and is infiltrating people's hardware systems and destroying their computers. He said that "because I am a valued Windows customer" they are calling me to make sure I am notified and that "we can make sure this doesn't destroy your computer."
He presents himself as a company representative reaching out to all clients and works hard to try to scare you into listening to him.
However, when pressed, he could not tell me how he got my phone number, what company he represented, or answer a couple of basic technology questions. When I told him I work for a tech company and that I was going to have one of my people call him back, he hung up on me.
I called my tech company and they said this is a scam. Your computer is not going to crash (from what he's selling anyway) and "Windows" does not have your phone number.
After talking to my tech company I re-dialed the number that he had phoned from and got a recording saying "if you'd like to be taken off our call list for future promotions..." - confirming the scam.- Caller: Trikon
- Ben replies to AMAYAWe are on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY and we still get unsolicited phone calls 4-5 times a day from these parasites.
- pissedCalls but no answer. I'm on the no call list and it seems the only way you can get rid of these jerks is to disconnect the ringer! What do they think they can gain by breaking into people's work? They should simply just shut off phone service to scam callers. Where are are representatives? Who is representing us? Why do they continually allow this kind of harassment? Maybe we should call their homes all hours of day and night and just let the phones ring. Anybody have the private numbers of our decision-makers? Let's stop this total harassment of our personal space and time right now!
Anybody else sick of it?- Caller: 206-445-6544
- George| 1 replyI received a call this afternoon from number 206 445 6544. They claimed to be from a US based international recruitment organisation. I Live in England. As I have registered with a few organizations of this nature I didn't think anything of it until I researched the company and was directed here. Luckily, I don't do any form of internet banking. They did not ask for any bank related information, they simply said they would call me back tomorrow afternoon as I had said to them I don't have time right now to be tied up on a lengthy call. With any form of potential employment, I always do extensive research into the contacting organization. One thing that this organization have failed to realise is that I have some amazing software on my pc and have managed to track where the call was made from. They are a Hong Kong based organization, details below. I will continue to look into this and if I find any further, relelvant information, I will log it here. It is the first time I have been contacted by this organization, but it seems that a lot of other people are having a real hard time with these idiots. I hope this information is of some use.

Male with voice sounding to be of South Asian origin. Rude! Became argumentative when I indicated that I was not interested in their services. Tried to argue that I needed to be on a do not call list to be removed from their calls.- Call type: Telemarketer
- SoulForce1Caller ID said TRIKON. The male caller with a heavy Indian accent said he was calling because I am a "registered" user of the Windows Operating System (registered with whom I wonder?) and they were following up with Windows customers to conduct a checkup on my operating system. I asked if this was a service I had subscribed to and he said no. So I asked, then this is a sales call? He said no. I said I'm not interested and hung up.
