This was absolutely a call from USAA. I'm in the middle of a divorce, and my husband dropped me from the policy. They were calling to let me know and get me set up with a new one.

Just because the number isn't on their site doesn't make it a scam, people. They only list numbers they want you to call. They have many, many departments that dial out from other numbers. I used to work there. Aside from that, that's pretty much how every large company with a call center works.

(Sorry if this posts twice. Got a timeout error.)

It's not a "marketing tactic". Their insurance, which is their primary service, is 100,000% only open to the military and their families. Their banking services, however, are open to anyone.

Also, 99.9% of their employees are extremely nice.

There's one thing you're right about, though. USAA ***Federal Savings Bank*** is not a credit union.

I have many USAA accounts and had to make an insurance claim, this number was from my adjuster who did not try to sell me anything or ask for personal info so for me, it was a legit number.

USAA does not call you about a claim unless it is to resolve your portion of the claim.  (I should Know!)  When your claim is settled, they send you a check.  If you use USAA, check you on site messages.

I received a call showing this number, but it went to voicemail since I was out of the house.  In my case, from the content of the message left, I know it was USAA and not CNID spoofing to look like it was USAA.

USAA were calling me back about a specific report I'd made a while ago.  They took due care to avoid leaving any of my account info in the voice mai,l while at the same time providing enough detail about the report to prove they had received the report.

(Of course, if I had been around to answer the call, I'd have still not given them any info if they'd asked, instead following the normal rules for 'they called me' situations.  Those include me calling them back on a known number if I needed to do any account changes.)

I agree, this is a legitimate number from USAA,....AND that it is quite easy for just about any scammer to spoof the number. People simply need to be careful. Don't know the number?.....don't answer.
I disagree with those saying that USAA does telemarketing or that they are rude. I am inclined to believe that those are the spammers. Makes sense. Only those who are active duty, discharged (or retired from) the military and those persons directly related can benefit from their insurance, banking and other benefits. When I get calls from other insurance companies, I simply say "I have USAA" and the response is always that they cannot compete with them. It has been over 20 years and I can only say that they have some of the most wonderful customer service of any company with which I have ever done business.

USAA is not a federal government company.  They are completely private and are owned by their membership.  They have nothing to do with the federal government, except for the fact that all of their policyholders are active duty military, military reservists, veterans, or families of veterans.  They sell insurance and insurance-related products to those who are eligible for membership.

Its not always what it seems
This number called a business line today not even knowing how to say the name of who they were asking for, then said it was a personal call to someone who "might be an employee with us... do you know if they are?". I told them they would have to try the person they knew on a different means of communication because we are not allowed to transfer personal calls to employees for any reason (you could tell this person was fishing) and They asked for my name so I gave them a fake one. They didn't say who they were and I wasn't going to say who I was. Then I just disconnected quietly. Who knows who it was, but they weren't rude or anything like that. Just fishing for information.

Yup, it's really USAA. and a great Company for Service connected people. If it;s unknown to you someone is spoofing USAA and doubtless other recognizable numbers to get you to answer. You'll know if you're a member!

The call was legitimate.  I didn't answer because I was driving.  USAA rep left a voicemail regarding a claim I submitted.  Best to be sure.

Legitimate number for USAA, but I think their robo-dialer has an issue.  It called my work #, then a minute later called my cell.  I tried to take the call on my cell but it hung up right when I answered.  Shortly after I got an e-mail that they were trying to contact me for a homeowner's insurance issue.

This phone number called me three times within three minutes and never left a message.  Out of curiosity I called it back and it was a recording asking me to enter my social security number and my zip code.  I put in some fake numbers and it transferred me to a hold and the holding message said that this call may be recorded for quality purposes.  I hung up immediately.  I do not have this insurance company, nor do I have a claim pending with them.  Sound like a PHISHING expedition to me.

Real USAA number. Representative left a message. I was in an accident (rear ended) and it was an adjuster calling to get my statement and help me with the next steps in getting my car fixed. I too didn't recognize the number and didn't answer. No biggie. I'll call them back. They left me info to call back.
