- Als wifeGot a call a few minutes ago at work from Mr. Peterson regarding a credit card from 2007 in which I owed. A couple of weeks ago the company sent me a letter to resolve with a payment plan. Mr. Peterson says that I have a restraining order against me and that in 24 to 48 hours, they will be contacting my bank, my employer etc. He asked if i wanted to resolve this issue over the phone and I kinda laughed and said I will call the company directly. He says you only have 24 to 48 hours before we proceed! Who are these people and what type scam are they running. Are they wanting us to set up payment with them, so they can take money. They also told me that I should consult with an attorney as I would be in court.

- Mad as hell!I received this call on my cell phone, and refused to answer. They left a message and within 5 minutes had also called my father, my ex-husband, and my employer. Little did they know that I was the one on the other end of the phone when they called my employer. I later called them back and informed them that the FTC required them to stop calling me if I said so, then stated that they are no longer allowed to contact me through any means other than mail. To which, the girl stated, "I hope you have a good attorney, because you are going to need it." She also said I had a restraining order out against me and that I was going to be sued immediately. I told her "go ahead". Stupid damn people need to learn to quit harrassing people. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, IC3.gov, Attorney General of Texas, FTC and my local police department. I'm hoping something helps and they stop this crap!

I of course did not call, I believe it is a scam like all the rest and I am getting sick of them. I assume they want us to call and leave us on hold forever, racking up charges, and that is how they make their money. Pretty sick. Find a real job, geez. - ALEX| 1 replySome woman called my job. - Alfalfa replies to ALEXConsumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt076.shtm - BevyCall from restricted number called my brothers house today. Same BS lines about a pay day loan which i have never got a loan from anywhere except my bank. A couple monthes ago they called my sister claiming a i had a restraining order against me. I called them today and informed them i knew this was a scam they hung up on me. I called back and told them if they ever called any of my family members again i would file harassment charges, again i was hung up on. So i decided to let them see how it felt to get unwanted calls. I have called them several times now and i think they are getting tired of me. Also the people are very rude... Heres a tip for scammers: Work on ur people skills!!! More likely to cooperate with someone that sounds nice instead of some kind of hood rat. After all momma always said u catch more flies with honey... And yes i will continue calling them for no reason for the rest of the week!!! Take that Central Asset Bureau! !!!!

- GinaI got the call today, for my husband. Same message as everyone else. Before calling I read a bunch of posts here. When I finally called they said they couldn't give me any information because it's personal and sensitive and my husband was the one who needed to call in. But they had no problem leaving their "personal and sensitive" information on my answering machine. I'm so curious to see what they have to say because we claimed bankruptcy recently so we have no outstanding debt.

- GinaOK, so I called my husband at work and told him what was going on and he called these nice folks and gave them permission to speak to me. I called them back and I was very nice and tried to appear overly concerned. The woman I spoke to, Tori Anderson, was super sweet as she told me that we owed money on a payday loan we took out. She explained how we had gotten 6 previous notices (by mail) and ignored them all so unfortunately they had to go "this route".
I asked her the name of the payday loan company and she told me she didn't have that info. I also asked her the amount owed and she also said she didn't have that info. I asked when this loan was supposedly taken out, didn't have that info. She said the only way for me to get any of that info is to go to court or make a payment arrangement and asked if I would like to make that arrangement now.
I said no, but asked for the name and address of the company I was speaking with. She game the name, which I already knew, Central Asset Bureau, but was reluctant to give me the address. I had to ask 3 times and then she finally gave me:
1100 NW Loop, 410 Suite 700
But wouldn't give me the city or state. I had to ask twice before she told me San Antonio, TX. Then she wouldn't give me the zip code. And there are 89 zip codes for San Antonio. I just looked it up myself on USPS.com. It's 78213.
After that I told her I would just like to wipe this whole thing out and get it off my credit report. I told her I want to pay off whatever we owe right now. And she said the only way to do that is to make a payment today and then someone would contact me in 7-10 days to pay off the rest.
At this point I said "OK, but before I do that can I just tell you one thing." And she said "Sure". And I said "Neither my husband or myself have ever taken out a payday loan in our lives." Well, that's when her tone changed and she got real nasty and sarcastic.
She went on and on about how she has proof right in front of her, she mentioned having my checking account info and said the name of my bank. So I said "Well, what do I do if we never took out, or received money, from this supposed loan?" And she replied "I'll be sending a subpoena to your home and to your husband's place of employment. Good Luck." and she was gone!
I hope this helps ease the minds of anyone who has also received this call. It's obviously a scam. However, I would still suggest sending a debt validation letter as mentioned by several others on this site. Send it by certified mail return receipt. A google search will provide sample debt validation letters to use. If they continue to call you after the post office has delivered the letter, they have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and owe you $1,000 for each time they call or write to you.- Caller: Central Asset Bureau

Thank you and good luck in this legal matter.
I returned the phone call. The person who answered the phone would not identify himself when asked to. He would not explain the type of agency other than they were a litigation office. He refused to state what type of complaint was filed against me. He was very rude and demanding. I told him I have 22 years experience in the court system in which I was very aware that this is illegal. He started yelling at me stating "if I actually worked in the court system I would be very aware that they have the legal right to follow up on any complaint that came thru their office and contact any family member, friend or employer I was associated with. If I knew my job well enough I would have not gotten myself in this situation!" I told them I wasn't falling for their scam and hung up.
This is definitely a scam. They have NO right at all to contact you in this manner or your friends and family or employers. I have notified my family to ignore any calls if received by this company. I have filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and Attorney General's office. The court system does NOT work this way. They are using scare tactics to scam money with threats and fear. They need to be stopped. Please filed complaints with the FTC and the Attorney General's office to help stop these people. The more complaints the more urgency to handle this.
