you know, instead of each person telling the exact same story over and over and over and over and over and over, don't you all think it may be wise to try and figure out what we all have in common? Perhaps that way we could figure out who this person is.

could it possibly be a collection company? or someone who works for a mortgage company? my hunch is it's a mortgage company. i own many, many homes and payments are technically due on the first. However, they do not add late charges until the 17th, so I usually get all my payments in by the 12th or so. But the "courtesy" calls begin around the 10th. Could this be it?

If my ideas are not to anyone's liking, just go back to posting your identical experiences ad naseum. They get really interesting after a while.

We get this fax machine wakeup call about 3 times a week, usually around 4:00 in the morning, CDT. I am at my wit's end w/ it as it seems there is NOTHING we can do to stop it.

Joe - you are a smart guy.  Let's think about this...I don't own property other than my home and it is paid off, so I don't think it is a mortgage company. I live in the St. Louis Metro area of Missouri and this call has come several times during the day - the most recent being about 5 minutes ago at 5:00 pm. I am current on all of my bills, so a collection agency is out. Maybe it is a computerized calling device for marketing companies who are calling several homes at the time time, but disconnect all but the one that answers first. If two or more answer at the same time and only one call can be taken, the others are left with a dead call or perhaps severl beeps before disconnecting.

I am open to other possibilities...anyone?

Maybe if you reject it immediately on your cell phone then it might stop if it's a machine?? Thoughts...

This stupid number also calls my cell phone @ 1am, 2am, 5am, 7am. I decided to save this number in my cell phone, and set the ring tone to "NO RING". If you are able to set ring tones with your home phone I advise you to do the same. Next time it calls, I won't hear it. I really want to meet the person that program my number to its stupid call list. Or the company that sold my number.

I don't anser the phone when I do not recognize the number, just as many people posting above. After seeing this chain, I called the number back but my phone dropped the call and displayed the message "Call Failed. Not Allowed."

This number just recently began calling my cell phone.  I too can agree with just how annoying this number has become.  The only thing I can think is that a couple months ago I ordered a free credit report and listed personal contact info.  When it comes to these scumbag telemarketers I only wish there was return conact information because I would probably fly to California, wait outside their office and "show them just how annoying this is" try dialing the phone after that [***]!

OK, here is the deal. This # is used as a common forwarding # for calls made over VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). This means that multiple companies or people are using this service over the same line and therefore all the numbers are the same. If this were being done via snail mail, it would be like we all got mail from LA (the place all the mail was routed through), but the individual addresses were erased along the way.

The only thing we can do is complain to Level III that people are abusing their services and violating the Do Not Call list.

My caller ID shows (213)291-1900 called me on Sunday, Oct 28 at 4:08PM EST. From reading through the details of the previous calls, it's pretty obvious that a computer hacker has installed software meant to locate other computers, which they will try to break into or hack. Most corporate networks have firewalls to prevent unauthorized users, esp. incoming calls. What he/they obviously have been able to accomplish is make life miserable for a lot of people, and thus warrants an investigation from the FCC. I'm leaving this message on here because after I document this nuisance caller I will notify the FCC, and my telephone company, Verizon. I suggest you do the same.

Angry, I posted the same message as you several weeks ago.  The VOIP forwarding is exactly what is happening.  For me, I answered a call from the number and was connected to an offshore gambling service that was attempting to give me some great "bonus" money if I would made a deposit and bet with them.  The origins of the calls are outside of the US, it's just that they are being routed through this LA area phone number.  The only thing that you will figure out that we all have in common is that we all own telephones!

That's just my story; I could be wrong.  The trutch is, it's that OJ is responsible for all of the calls.

I've only received two calls from this number (both hang-ups), but if it continues, I will be contacting both that VOIP company and the FCC about it.  I already filed a complaint via the Do Not Call registry site, indicating in the company name that they are using VOIP to mask their information.  This is unfortunately a cell phone, which I've already found out that there is no way block harrassing phone calls aside from changing your number or turning off the ability to receive any unknown calls.  My cell phone has been on the DNC list for 3 years.

My daughter received this a call from this # on her cell phone. She did not answer. Than right after I recieved the same call on my cell phone. I went to answer it but I lost signal. Than I received a phone call on my home phone & friend said he was the one trying to call us. I explained that his phone number did not show up but that 213-291-1900 number showed up. We could not understand why. We all have verizon cell phones.
